The recent oil spills around the world in Australia, the Golf of Mexico disaster of Deepwater Horizon show clearly that the market for zero emission cars is wide open. The time is now.
Hundred years of automobile making and the automotive industry has changed our lives and mobility range forever. Were the first automobiles on the road, smelly open huffing and puffing vehicles; a century later we all want to have one, And they have changed our economies completely. Or even when we can afford, two or more. Cars have to provide us with all the luxury we can gather inside the space of our metal trophies. The market asks for more sustainable peoples movers, producing less pollution, less global warming, and a rapid decline of the second hand market.
Cars History, the Automobile Industry
In the very early days, cars were electric but had a too small of a range to be worth the value. Efficient batteries were not available yet. Once the modern combustion engine was introduced the real development of modern autos was on its way, and global needs and demands were created. The search for oil was on. And this rich commodity has led us to staggering prices, worldwide pollution, climate change, annual global conventions, political disagreements and wars.
Fossil Fuels, is there a Solution
But did this bring us closer to a solution? Marginal, knowing that one day the world will run out of fossil fuels, we don’t really have developed yet a strong solution to the ever larger growing amount of wheels on the roads. More brands are arising, more car manufacturing plants are builds and nobody seems to stop, alter or reinforce a change. The growing amount of combustion engines takes a high price on our beautiful blue marble. Pollution, waste and an ever staggering pile of automotive junk seems unavoidable.
Electrical Cars, Zero Emission
Electric cars might offer a solution, and they will. Many of the main car manufacturers are venturing into this future direction with the highest potential to offer a clean and green solution. Electrical cars can be one hundred percent zero emission as they could be fed by solar power. Many manufactures stay reluctant and hang back in the developments or even have nothing planned on their drawing boards yet. Also many of the large oil companies hold patents which hamper some of the new innovations.
Eco Friendly Automobiles
Let’s have a look at some of the leading car manufacturers and their new breed of cars. First we must make a diversion between various options available
Zero Emission Cars
Hundred percent powered by electric motors connected to the cars internal batteries. Electrical cars can be charged from any net outlet or any solar panel source.
Which are powered by electro motors fed by a battery pack, and when batteries run low or above certain speeds the internal combustion engine takes over and generates electricity to power up the batteries.
Modern Car Manufacturers
For this moment it does not seem that car manufacturers are really pursuing the innovations of zero emission cars. At the Chicago Car Show in January 2010 was Tesla the only production model available as being a zero emission car, all other models shown were previews or concept cars, and it can take many years before these hit our roads.
Electrical cars on the market today
Tesla was one of the first to manufacture electrical cars as production models. Now they are one of the leading one hundred percent electrical car manufacturers in the world. Based in Palo Alto, California, USA Tesla Motors produces a variety of futuristic sporty electrical vehicles. And with corporate offices in USA and Europe is one of the leading manufacturers of eco friendly cars. And to date they are the only production car in the USA which is completely electrical.
Interesting Hybrid Car
Reva G-Wiz available in the UK and India today, this inexpensive hybrid car is cheap to purchase, no show rooms and dealerships, only available to order through the internet. And has an amazing fuel/milage ration of 600 miles to the gallon. It is a real city car and is the latest hit in India.
Negative Points of Eco Friendly Cars
When cars are produced in small quantities the purchase prices are high, but once the moment of production car is reached prices drop radical. Hardly anyone will buy an eco friendly vehicle when the price is too high, the refueling takes too long or the range is too small. But the environmental benefits will always outweigh any of the above negatives.
We still have a long way to go, before the traditional combustion engine will leave our streets. But some way or another we have to make the change. It will reduce pollution and will save part of our earth resources which are needed for other forms of industry. The automotive industry will change in the next 25 years.
We all can be the difference!
