You can get some great deals shopping at yard sales. But shopping at yards sales is almost an art. If you learn some yard sale shopping tips, you are more likely to find better deals and leave the sale a very happy buyer.

I am starting a series of yard sale shopping tips that everyone can use to save money. Please subscribe to my articles by clicking on the “follow” tab next to my face so you don’t miss any future yard sale tips!

I am also including a list of yard sales in the Sanford, Maine and surrounding areas for the convenience of my local readers. You can see the local yard sales at the end of this article. If you have a yard sale planned, let me know and I’ll post it in my next yard sale article!

Yard Sale Shopping Tip #2 – Picture it Painted!

If you are on the hunt for a specific item, like a red vase or a white wicker chair, keep in mind that just about anything you find in the home decor category can be painted. So instead of shopping for a particular color, look around to see if you can find the right style or the right size.

Once you start shopping by style, you will find that you have many more options. If you find the perfect vase but in the wrong color, just get a can of cheap spray paint and turn the old vase into the exact vase you are looking for!

You do not have to have any special talents to paint something. And you don’t need expensive paint. You can practice by painting any old object with a can of white spray paint. Practice until you get the feel for how it’s done.

Once you start painting your yard sale finds, you can get more creative. You can paint a base coat and even start adding designs like polka dots, stripes or even flowers. You might find you are a budding artist and just never knew it!

Need some extra money? You can turn your yard sale finds into cold hard cash! Paint your purchases and resell them for a nice profit! Good items that will resell once painted are furniture (you can even paint upholstered furniture!), decorative glass, vases, flower pots, bird houses, picture frames and so much more!

So next time you are yard sale shopping, don’t let color stop you from buying the right piece. Just picture it painted!
