WWE Over the Limit 2010 Predictions

by itchyfish

This Sunday’s newest WWE Pay Per View event is called “Over the Limit.” “Over the Limit” will broadcast live on Sunday, May 23, 2010 from Detroit, Michigan at 8 pm Eastern Time.

Here is a list of matches and my predictions for each:

WWE Champion John Cena v. Batista (“I Quit” Match for the WWE Championship)

Prediction: John Cena

What’s Going On: The main problem with this ongoing issue between Batista and John Cena is that Batista is jealous that he has not had the opportunities that John Cena has had. Batista believes he should be the poster child for the WWE. The problem with that is his behavior does not warrant poster child status or even a championship title.

This all started when John Cena came to the aid of Bret Hart with his dealings with Mr. McMahon a couple of months ago. McMahon hired Batista to take out John Cena. John Cena was then able to win a spot at the Elimination Chamber match to reclaim the championship taken from him by Sheamus a few months before at the Tables Ladders and Chairs match. When John Cena won the Elimination Chamber, giving him back the WWE Championship and a guaranteed spot at Wrestlemania 26. But seconds after a brutal 45 minute match, Mr. McMahon forced John Cena to defend his title right then against Batista. Obviously, Batista won.

After jumping through a few more hoops, John Cena was finally granted his rematch for the championship at Wrestlemania 26. John Cena defeated Batista, but Batista is a sore loser. He kept coming after John Cena and decided to cash in his rematch clause at the next Pay Per View event, Extreme Rules. That match was a Last Man Standing match. Basically, beat your opponent so badly that he cannot get up to answer the referee’s 10-count. The match went on for awhile but John Cena finally got Batista down and duct taped his ankles around one of the ring posts. John Cena remains the champion.

Some people called that a cowardly move and others, like myself, applauded the creativity. In any case, Batista was awarded number one contender status to go after the title at “Over the Limit” but John Cena got to pick the terms of the match. It’s an “I Quit” match. This simply means that the first of them to say “I Quit” loses. And to add to that, John Cena announced that he is forfeiting his rematch clause should he lose the match. This will be very interesting.

World Heavyweight Champion Jack Swagger v. Big Show (Title Match)

Prediction: Big Show

What’s Going On: There isn’t too much history between Jack Swagger and Big Show because Big Show had been tag team partners with The Miz when they were the Unified Tag Team Champions. But after the WWE Draft this year, Big Show was drafted to SmackDown.

Jack Swagger won the Money in the Bank Ladder match at Wrestlemania 26 and cashed in his contract on a weak and injured Chris Jericho, becoming the new World Heavyweight Champion. (Jericho had won the title at the Elimination Chamber match when he beat The Undertaker with some help from Shawn Michaels.)

However, there was still debate between Chris Jericho and Edge as to who should be the number one contender. General Manager Teddy Long settled that by announcing the number one contender is Big Show. Edge has since been drafted to Raw.

Intercontinental Champion Drew McIntyre v. Kofi Kingston (Title Match)

Prediction: Kofi Kingston

What’s Going On: After Drew McIntyre trying to severely injure Matt Hardy and end his career, SmackDown General Manager Teddy Long first suspended him, then took away his title, then fired Drew McIntyre. But Drew is the “chosen one” and he would not go away that easily.

While Drew McIntyre was gone, there was a series of matches to determine who would be the new Intercontinental Champion. That was last Friday on SmackDown between Christian and Kofi Kingston. Kingston won, but shortly after being presented with the championship belt, Drew McIntyre showed up with a letter from Mr. McMahon reinstating Drew McIntyre and his championship title.

Rey Mysterio v. CM Punk (SES Pledge v. Hair Match)

Prediction: Rey Mysterio unless there is serious cheating

What’s Going On: CM Punk thinks that if he can get Rey Mysterio to join the Straight Edge Society, then others will join as well. That’s part of the reason CM Punk has been antagonizing Mysterio even to the point of trying to embarrass him in front of his family on his daughter’s birthday.

The problem is that they’ve had this kind of match before. The last time Punk’s hair was on the line, he won. But there is rampant cheating among the SES. I guess they can’t be better than everyone else unless they cheat. It’s hard enough to keep an eye on Serena and Luke Gallows, but lately there has been this mysterious hooded figure that comes through the crowd, jumps into the ring and disrupts the match. I expect something similar on Sunday.

Randy Orton v. Edge

Prediction: Randy Orton

What’s Going On: These two go so far back that I cannot even begin to explain what is going on between these two former tag team teammates. The drama over the years has been incredible and there will be a lot of angry energy in this match.

Unified Tag Team Champions The Hart Dynasty v. Chris Jericho and The Miz (Title Match)

Prediction: Chris Jericho and The Miz if they can work together and there isn’t rampant cheating on the part of anyone related to The Hart Dynasty (that means you Bret Hart)

What’s Going On: First, I know Bret Hart is a Hall of Famer, but he and the whole Hart Dynasty group cheat. They know how to game the system. They can do it so well in fact that we haven’t seen Mr. McMahon since the beating he took courtesy of Bret Hart and his family at Wrestlemania 26. And after losing the Unified Championship to the Hart Dynasty (more cheating), The Miz and Big Show parted ways (Big Show had also been Chris Jericho’s tag team partner).

By Chris Jericho winning his match a couple of weeks ago, he and The Miz were able to compete for the Unified Tag Team title. Unfortunately, that was the same week The Miz lost his United States Championship to Bret Hart. You guessed it, more cheating. I tell you that The Miz is getting the shaft.

The Hart Dynasty was drafted to Raw during this year’s WWE Draft.

Divas Champion Eve Torres v. Maryse (Title Match)

Prediction: Eve Torres as long as there is no interference by Team LayCool or some weird change in the match by Vicki Guerrero

What’s Going On: Eve finally beat Maryse for the Divas title but Maryse always has something up her sleeve. She is very cozy with Vicki Guerrero and Team LayCool so there is a possibility this match could see a lot of divas in and out of the ring. As it is, Team LayCool is “sharing” the Women’s Championship after match interference caused an aggravation to Beth Phoenix’s already injured knee after Vicki made it a 2 on 1 handicapped match at the last minute.

R-Truth v. Ted DiBiase

Prediction: R-Truth

What’s Going On: Ted DiBiase, now that he has full access to his trust fund, has been trying to find himself a “Virgil” (the well-paid assistant or lackey his father had). After being drafted to Raw, DiBiase approached R-Truth about being his “Virgil.” Insulted by this, R-Truth smacked DiBiase in the face and told him that “Truth don’t play that.” Since then, Ted DiBiase has paid people to interfere with and injure R-Truth, such as Carlito and his brother. I don’t know who is left for DiBiase to pay off now the Carlito has been fired from the WWE.

This is going to be a very interesting night. You can check out the WWE website for more information on matches, the story behind the matches, superstar profiles, and how to get “Over the Limit” on Sunday.
