In this first ever Pay Per View event of its kind, live from Long Island, New York, the WWE broadcasted the Fatal 4 Way event.
The rules in a Fatal 4 Way are simple. The first athlete to get a pin wins the match and the title. And it doesn’t matter who gets pinned, as long as its legal. This also means that the current champion only has a 25% chance of retaining his or her title. Also, there are no disqualifications or count outs.
And the event starts with an entrance from Mr. McMahon to announce that Bret Hart, who was recently named General Manager of Raw, will not be attendance. This is because on the previous episode of Raw, the Season 1 NXT rookies (minus Daniel Bryan who had been released from his contract the week before) abducted Hart, stuffed him in a limo, and had that limo crash into 4 cars backstage in order to pressure him into giving them all contracts. Mr. McMahon also stated that he would meet with Bret Hart’s representatives to see if he will be able to continue his duties as Raw General Manager.
And out comes “The Chosen One,” Drew McIntyre. It’s hard for the crowd to be behind McIntyre as he decided that he should have a match with Teddy Long last Friday on SmackDown. If Teddy Long failed to show up for the match, then he would be fired. After humiliating Teddy Long, Kofi Kingston came out but was stopped by McIntyre’s 10 security guards.
After he beat on Kofi, Matt Hardy, who he managed to get suspended from all WWE activities, jumped the barrier to get his hands on McIntyre. Although McIntyre managed to beat up both Kofi Kingston and Matt Hardy with a futureshock DDT, I think we have all seen how vicious Drew McIntyre can be.
Now McIntyre is calling for Teddy Long to come out to the ring at the request of Mr. McMahon. Is calling him pathetic and a shell of a man really necessary McIntyre? McIntyre orders him to sit at ringside and, when he wins back his title, has to hand it to him personally. Kofi Kingston won the Intercontinental Championship title from Drew McIntyre last month at the Over the Limit Pay Per View event.
Intercontinental Champion Kofi Kingston v. Drew McIntyre (Title Match)
Winner: Kofi Kingston and still Intercontinental Champion
After delivering a futurshock DDT to Kofi Kingston, McIntyre went for the cover but the referee was knocked out too. Frustrated, McIntyre brings in Teddy Long and makes him put on the referee’s jersey to finish the 3 count. Long gets to two and then stops. After threatening Long to finish the 3 count, Matt Hardy rushes the ring and gets in a few shots on Drew McIntyre. This gave Kofi Kingston enough time to recover from the DDT and go for the cover and win with the 3 count delivered by Teddy Long. There’s going to be some drama and reprisals on the next episode of SmackDown.
Fatal 4 Way Match for the WWE Divas Championship: Maryse v. Gail Kim v. Alicia Fox v. WWE Divas Champion Eve Torres
Winner: Alicia Fox (not sure that’s a good thing)
After all of the hard work Eve put into putting down Maryse, her delay in going for a cover allowed Alicia Fox time to get back into the ring, throw Eve out of the ring, and take advantage for the cover and win. Can Eve get a rematch? Because if she does, Eve will definitely win her title back.
There was a low-level confrontation discussion between Rey Mysterio and Big Show about who is likely to win the World Heavyweight Championship later in the evening.
Entering the ring is Chris Jericho who has not been himself lately. He proceeds to go on talking about how he is the reason people watch the WWE. And he’s troubled that he is not the hot topic of the WWE. He thinks that’s because he is at the top of the mountain and everyone is trying to knock him off. Jericho still thinks he’s the best in the world at what he does (still not sure what that is) and that he is the best performer on the roster. Chris Jericho also thinks that Evan Bourne is simply trying to make a name for himself by attacking him.
Chris Jericho v. Evan Bourne
Winner: Evan Bourne
This was a hard-fought match by both athletes as they countered each others moves and Bourne was able to get out of two attempts at the Walls of Jericho.
Flashback: SmackDown General Manager reports to the WWE Universe that, over the Memorial Day weekend, Kane found his brother, The Undertaker, in a vegetative state.
Since then, Kane has vowed to be judge, jury, and execution to those responsible for the current state of his brother. The Undertaker has qualified for the Fatal 4 Way for the World Heavyweight Championship by beating Rey Mysterio the previous week. To find out who would fill The Undertaker’s spot in the Fatal 4 Way, a Battle Royal was held for the SmackDown roster with Rey Mysterio as the winner to join World Heavyweight Champion Jack Swagger, CM Punk, and Big Show for the title.
Fatal 4 Way Match for the World Heavyweight Championship: Big Show v. CM Punk v. Rey Mysterio v. World Heavyweight Champion Jack Swagger
Winner: Rey Mysterio
After much carnage, all men were down and Kane comes out with a coffin. He takes CM Punk to put him in the coffin as Punk fights to stay out. He finally gets help from Luke Gallows and they run out followed by Kane. As the remaining 3 regain their senses, Rey Mysterio connected with a 619 on Jack Swagger, went for the cover and the win.
Don’t forget about the next Pay Per View Event, Money in the Bank on July 18th in Kansas City, Missouri.
Backstage to an interview by Josh Matthews with WWE Champion John Cena. He believes the Season 1 NXT graduates will show up and cause trouble. As for his take on his upcoming fatal 4 way match, Cena says that whoever wins the title will have to earn it.
Flashback to last Monday night’s Raw when there was a Fatal 4 Way match for the United States Championship resulting in a win for The Miz. And just for the record, The Miz should never be allowed to rap ever again.
United States Champion The Miz v. R-Truth (Title Match)
Winner: The Miz, and still the United States Champion
The Miz dominated much of the match, showing a higher level of athleticism than R-Truth in his ability to recover from certain moves. At one point, the midsection of R-Truth was compromised, but R-Truth continued to fight through it. It looked like he had the upper hand for a little bit, but
In the locker room, Todd Grisham interviews Edge on his thoughts about his upcoming fatal 4 way match. Edge answers by systematically running down each of his opponents and their weaknesses, assuming that he will win because his opponents are flawed.
6-Person Mixed Tag Team Match: Unified Tag Team Champions The Hart Dynasty and Natalia v. The Usos and Tamina
Winners: The Hart Dynasty and Natalia
The win was picked up thanks to Natalia finishing Tamina with a clothesline after Tamina failed to connect with her frog splash.
Fatal 4 Way Match for the WWE Championship: Randy Orton v. Edge v. Sheamus v. WWE Champion John Cena
Winner: Sheamus, thanks to interference by the Season 1 NXT rookies
During the match, the NXT Season 1 rookies came backstage and beat up the superstars backstage. They proceed to the ring and head for John Cena. After putting him down, Sheamus goes for the cover and win. The rookies continue to go after John Cena while Sheamus runs for his life out through the crowd. Continuing to go after John Cena, the rookies turn their attention to run after Sheamus when he reappears with the WWE Championship belt.
Fatal 4 Way 2010 ends with John Cena down in the ring and Edge and Randy Orton down on the floor outside of the ring.
