WWE Extreme Rules Pay Per View took place on April 25, 2010 in Baltimore, Md.
Here is a short review of each match:
Street Fight – Triple H vs. Sheamus – The match starts in the back with a brawl between the two. Sheamus hits Triple H in the head with a lead pipe and he appears to be unconscious. Lawler and Cole state they will keep us up to date on the condition of Triple H. So I guess that wasn’t really the start of the match.
Showmiz comes to the ring to proclaim themselves the greatest tag team ever (well, mostly Miz!). Teddy Long interrupts Miz and announces that they will wrestle tonight and if the opposing tag team wins, they will get a title match tomorrow night on Raw. Miz keeps talking so Teddy makes it two tag teams. Miz continues to talk. Teddy makes it a 3 team gauntlet match. Big Show finally puts his hand over Miz’ mouth to shut him up.
First opposing team – John Morrison and R-Truth: Short match. Morrison is disqualified after he refuses to release a submission hold on Big Show
Second team – MVP and Mark Henry – MVP has Miz beat with the playmaker but Big Show hits MVP and Miz rolls him up for the win.
Third Team – Hart Dynasty – The Hart Dynasty drop kick Big Show off the ring apron then pin Miz for the victory. A 20 second match. The Hart Dynasty gets a unified tag team title shot tomorrow night.
CM Punk vs. Rey Mysterio – Great match. Punk’s “help” was banished from the ring after constant interference, making it a true one on one match. Rey looked to have the momentum but a mysterious hooded stranger made his way out from under the ring and attacked Rey. CM Punk then put the go to sleep on Rey for the victory.
Strap match – JTG vs. Shad Gaspard – Short match. Sahd dominated most of the the match but in the end JTG touched all 4 corners and prevailed.
World Title Match – Randy Orton vs. Jack Swagger – Swagger dominated early, throwing Orton out of the ring and pummeling him. The turning point came when Swagger attempted to hit Orton with a trash can. Orton blocked it and hit Swagger several times with it. Orton then had the match in his control. He had Swagger in perfect position for the RKO on a chair but Swagger reversed it and slammed Orton’s back onto the chair and followed it with a gut wrench powerbomb for the victory. The Viper struck after the match with an RKO outside the ring.
Triple H vs. Sheamus – Great street fight. Triple H was obviously not at full strength after the attack earlier. But he put up a good fight and came close to victory. In the end it was 4 kicks to the head that did him in and gave Sheamus the win.
Women’s championship – Michelle McCool vs. Beth Phoenix -Beth Phoenix overcame outside interference to become the Women’s champion. This is the first time I’ve ever seen an ironing board used as a weapon in a match.
Cage Match – Edge vs. Chris Jericho – Stellar match. Jericho had the opportunity to win by leaving the cage but decided to punish Edge with a chair. Edge ducked the chair and delivered a spear but Jericho kicked out. The match went back and forth with Edge kicking out of the code breaker twice. As Jericho was trying to escape, Edge slammed the door on his leg, turning the tables on Jericho. He then delivered a spear for the win.
Last Man Standing – John Cena vs. Batista – Batista worked on Cena’s knee and leg to try and keep Cena from standing. Batista then executed the figure four! Batista bought a chair into the ring but Cena ducked and then put the attitude adjuster on Batista on the chair. Batista made it up on 9. Cena was then speared twice by Batista and was barely able to make it up by the count of 10. Batista then brought a table into the ring and set it up in the corner. Cena went for the STF but was driven into the table by Batista. The animal then continued his assault outside the ring. Batista went for a powerbomb from the top of the ring stairs onto the announcer’s table but was reversed into an attitude adjustment on the table. Wow!!! Batista got up at 9.9. The fight continued back in the ring and a spine buster on Cena onto a table. Cena was up at 9. That was followed by a Batistabomb. Cena up at 9. An STF on Batista and he barely made it to his feet. Finally, Cena pulled Batista’s legs through the turnbuckle poles and used duck tape to tape his legs together so Batista could not stand! John Cena retains the WWE title.
