WWE Draft Night 2010 Recap

by itchyfish

While there will be fallout from last night’s Extreme Rules event in Baltimore, tonight’s draft starts where we left off with the status of the Unified Tag Team Championship.

At Extreme Rules ShowMiz was challenged to a gauntlet match courtesy of Teddy Long. They had to compete against 3 separate tag teams. The Hart Dynasty, the third team, won and earned the right to fight for the Unified Tag Team Championship tonight.

Unified Tag Team Champions Big Show and The Miz vs. The Hart Dynasty

Winner: The Hart Dynasty by submission

Note on this match: There was interference by Bret Hart and that should have disqualified The Hart Dynasty. But because the referee didn’t see it, The Hart Dynasty went on to win the title and become the new Unified Tag Team Champions. I agree with Matt Striker that this was a travesty of justice. Then, during the commercial break, Big Show knocked out The Miz.

“WWE Extreme Rules 2010 Recap”

Update on the condition of Triple H: He suffered some nerve damage because of Sheamus’ attack with the steel pipe. There is still no word on his condition.

Now World Heavyweight Champion Jack Swagger wants us to believe that he is the best in the world because he has a 4.0 GPA in Business Finance and could take care of the National Debt. Edge showed up to tell him that if Swagger remains on SmackDown, that he will be aiming for the belt since he beat Chris Jericho in last night’s steel cage match.

SmackDown vs Raw Divas Tag Team Draft Match: WWE Divas Champion Diva and Maryse vs. Michelle McCool and Layla

Winner: Michelle McCool and Layla thanks to Maryse tagging in and laying down for a pin.

Results: I’m not sure why anyone thought Maryse would cooperate with Eve and the winner of the match gets a draft pick for their show. So Team LayCool teams up on Eve. Perhaps Michelle McCool is still upset about losing the Women’s title to Beth Phoenix last night.

First draft pick: Kelly Kelly has been drafted to SmackDown.

SmackDown vs. Raw Draft Pick Match: Evan Bourne vs. CM Punk

Winner: CM Punk; and let me just say I am so tired of the rampant cheating of the Straight Edge Society. Some hooded member with an SES sweatshirt on kept Evan Bourne from going Air Bourne and allowing CM Punk to win by pinfall.

Next draft pick: Big Show has been drafted to SmackDown. CM Punk does not seem to happy about this draft pick, but it is a random lottery, so there is little he can do about it.

Now it is time for Sheamus to make a public statement about what happened last night at Extreme Rules. He claims that Triple H will never wrestle again because his actions ended the career of Triple H. Sheamus now wants the WWE Championship back. (He won it back at the last Tables Ladders and Chairs match from John Cena and the drama between John Cena and Batista really heated up when John Cena won the title back at the Elimination Chamber only to have Vince McMahon make him defend it against Batista that night. John Cena would not win the championship back until WrestleMania 26 last month.) But out comes Randy Orton to remind him that Sheamus does not deserve a title shot, prompting Sheamus to remind Randy Orton that he lost his title match last night against Jack Swagger.

Enter John Cena to introduce tonight’s guest host? There is no guest host. WWE Global told John Cena earlier that night that the only person who can name a number one contender is the WWE Champion. He also announces that Randy Orton and Sheamus will have to fight it out to see who becomes the number one contender.

10-Man Dual Branded Battle Royal: Rey Mysterio, R-Truth, Intercontinental Champion Drew McIntyre, Kane, Shad Gaspard for SmackDown vs. MVP, Mark Henry, Yoshi Tatsu, Ted DiBiase, and Santino Marella for Raw; the winning team gets 3 draft picks for their show.

Winner: The team from Raw with the final elimination of Rey Mysterio

Draft Picks: John Morrision, R-Truth, and Edge are going to Raw.

SmackDown vs. Raw Draft Pick Match: Chris Jericho vs. Christian

Winner: Chris Jericho

Notes: Before the match even started Chris Jericho called for Edge to be fined and suspended because Edge tried to hurt him. Jericho takes some of the blame for being off of his game because of his loss to a “nameless, faceless rookie.” Chris Jericho still believes he is the best in the world at what he does and demands an apology from Heath Slater for costing him the match against Edge. And out comes Heath Slater (currently ranked 4th on NXT). He did apologize: that Jericho couldn’t beat him, that he couldn’t beat Edge, and that he won’t beat Christian.

Draft Pick: Kofi Kingston has been drafted to SmackDown.

SmackDown vs. Raw Draft Pick Match: World Heavyweight Champion Jack Swagger vs. John Morrison

Winner: World Heavyweight Champion Jack Swagger

Note: Although I am not a personal fan of Jack Swagger, I will admit that his skills have improved since becoming the World Heavyweight Champion.

Draft Pick: Christian goes to SmackDown.

Ted DiBiase tried to offer both Carlito and R-Truth an unspecified sum of money to be his confidant, carry his bags, etc. Carlito refused and R-Truth smacked him in the face and told him that “he don’t play that.”

John Cena paid tribute to our men and women of the United States armed forces in a video montage. As a wrestling fan and fan of John Cena, we appreciate it when people like you thank you for our sacrifice. Most times, we just want to hear a simple thank you. It’s very powerful.

SmackDown vs. Raw Draft Match: Dolph Ziggler vs. Hornswoggle

Winner: Hornswoggle via countout. Yes, he actually threw his helmet and both of his shoes at Dolph Ziggler to keep him out of the ring. Then Ziggler showed how little class he has by putting Hornswoggle into a sleeper. Totally unecessary.

Draft Pick: Chris Jericho is heading back to Raw. Wonder how that’s going to fair as Edge was also drafted to Raw.

Just when we thought we were heading for the last match of the night, out comes Batista screaming that he is the number one contender and how he should be the WWE Champion. He said the issue with the duct tape last night was a joke and no he believes he is owed a match. In fact, he says he’s not leaving until he gets his match.

Out comes Sheamus during Batista’s rant. He wants Batista to understand that he lost. Batista claims that he didn’t lose. Randy Orton comes out, presumably in response to Sheamus calling him and Batista losers due to their matches last night. Regular followers know that Orton and Batista have bad blood between them. Orton says that if he beats Sheamus, then he will face Batista. Not fair, cries Sheamus.

Now here comes the champ, John Cena to find a solution. He declares it a triple threat match.

#1 Contender Match Under Triple Threat Rules: Batista vs. Sheamus vs. Randy Orton (first pinfall or submission wins the match)

Winner: Batista due to interference by Edge. This cannot be good for John Cena. How many chances at the title does Batista deserve anyway?

While the draft may be over for tonight, there will be a supplemental draft on WWE.com on Tuesday, April 27th at noon. This is an online only draft.
