When composing the title for this article, the first thing I had problems with was using the word ‘actress’ as, let’s face it, Kristen Stewart can’t act. From the first time she walked on the screen in ‘Twilight’ with her slack face (why is her mouth always hanging open?), her dead eyes and her constant sneer, I just kept thinking “What? Why do teenage girls like this chick so much?” and, two years later, I still don’t get it. Out of every actress in Hollywood, Kristen Stewart has absolutely nothing going for her. Nothing.
It’s bad enough Kristen Stewart can’t act (the role of Bella was supposed to be intriguing not cause-you-to-snooze dull), but she’s also one of the plainest girls on the planet. Sure, she can look sexy and bad-ass if she’s loaded down with make-up put on by a top make-up artist and wearing funky designer clothes, but so could my Aunt Mildred. But, without all the glitz, Kristen Stewart is just an average looking girl you wouldn’t look at twice if she was standing in front of you in the checkout line. So, what’s this appeal Kristen Stewart has with teenage girls and why does she have so many teen fans?
Personally, I think it’s because Kristen Stewart is so obviously miserable and hates her life. The standing around always looking bored and annoyed obviously appeals to the teenage angst in her millions of teenage fans. It appeals to that idea the world is against them, nobody understands them and everything-is-boring-anyway-so-why-don’t-I-just-sit-and-pick-my-nails-because-life-is-so-pointless type of girls. Kristen Stewart and her constant pout validates their lives because, if Kristen Stewart can look that unhappy and that unsatisfied and still survive every day, then there’s hope for them.
Sad though, eh? That a girl who is so incredibly unhappy that walking around with lank, greasy hair, clothing that wears her instead of the other way around, and making snide comments about her fans, her movies, her boyfriends, her career and her life is a girl American teenagers actually look up to.
And sure, I do have some misgivings with that other current teen idol, Miley Cyrus and the dental floss she seems to be wearing for clothing lately, but………….if I had to pick a role model for the teenage girls I know (who thankfully can’t stand Kristen Stewart), I’d go with Miley over Kristen Stewart any day of the week. At least Miley has a personality. She has a spark (a whole fire to herself actually); she loves what she does and can’t wait to do more and more and more of it.
Kristen Stewart, on the other hand, looks like she’d welcome a quick stake through the heart so she could shrug off this mortal coil and that’s not a role model I would ever want for any teenage girl I know. A girl who’s given up before she’s even started.
Oh and by the way, Twilight is the only movie on DVD I have ever snapped in half and thrown in the garbage can. That’s two hours of my life I’ll never get back.
