Who got voted off American Idol on May 5 was revealed Wednesday night. Who got voted off American Idol on May 5 was decided based on Tuesday’s performances of Frank Sinatra week, where the top 5 contestants all performed Frank Sinatra songs. It was an interesting night, but it was unclear if some of these contestants could actually sell one of these songs as a hit single or on an upcoming album. Those performances, unfortunately, would end up dictating who got voted off American Idol on May 5, and who would be making it into the Top 4 for next week’s performance show. In addition to that question was whether or not this episode of American Idol was going to run long as well (again).
The 2010 American Idol Top Five
Last week it was Siobhan Magnus that went home, with Michael Lynche and Casey James joining her in the bottom three. It showed that Michael Lynche was still at risk, just a few shows after he had to be saved from going home by the American Idol judges. With Siobhan Magnus getting sent home, it also left just one girl still in the competition, and she is a strong one at that. Would Crystal Bowersox survive another week of the competition? Or could she be at risk out there on her own now?
The American Idol Results Show on May 4 was based on the performance videos that follow:

With the guest performances planned for the May 5 results show (Harry Connick Jr., who was also the Idol mentor this week and Lady Gaga), it meant that there would probably also be a long delay until the results were finally read. The elongated shows really are starting to seem like nothing more than a place for artists to plug their music, and not actually anything that is used to further the show itself. There are certainly quite a few viewers that tune in to see the contestants, and aren’t pleased when they try to pack in more celebrity-performers instead of having group numbers. Why must there be so much filler in between what we want to see, and what the producers force us to sit through when they finally get to the results?

Lee DeWyze was the first contestant brought out in front of the audience and after some more filler, Lee found out that he was the first safe contestant of the night. 48 minutes later, they had still not even talked to another one of the contestants. They then decided to do the grouping thing, sending two contestants to one side, two to the other, and asking Lee to go stand with the two that were safe.
Finally they announced who was in the bottom two, and it was Michael Lynche and Aaron Kelly. Queue the commercial break, as Crystal Bowersox and Casey James were told that they were safe for the night.
