This is in response to a request made by Research Analyst.
I will answer this request with bonus information, because I have been meaning to do a “Freebies” hub for the financially deficient. Especially during this torrential period in history during which we seem to be inundated with disasters of epic proportions, both fiscal and natural.
- Mortgage crises
Those of us who are comfortable often assume that those who are in need are lazy, but the truth is that many people out there are at a natural disadvantage.
Some lack the knowledge. Some the opportunity. and others lack the ability to fundamental abilities to overcome whatever obstacles are preventing them from having the basic needs of a human, which we belive are:
- clothing and
With this hub, I will try to direct you to places where you may be able to acquire some of these things for free. Unfortuantely, for those who lack internet access or the ability to read and/or understand English, this will still be of no use. However, I believe that every little bit helps so I will still put this out there.
Let’s start with Free food:
When I was in college at the Rochester Institute of Technology, a bunch of friends and I started a club called the “Free Food Bandits”. What is was is a group of people that scavenged the campus for free food. Often times on campus you will find organizations hosting social gatherings where thy offer pizza and chicken wings (or some other food stuffs) to the attendees. With the advent of facebook.com, we were able to more easily communicate the whereabouts of such opportunities to one another and to a larger audience.
A couple of my friends and I worked for the catering service at RIT and had some inside information sometimes, which was helpful. It was fun (and a little bit unneccessary since we weren’t exactly “starving”).
Some people aren’t lucky enough to go to college and scavenge for free food. Fortunately for these people, though, if they live in America, we have corporations whose sole purpose is to produce and distribute food. Of course this is for a fee which some people can not afford, but there are still ways around that. Sometimes, these businesses give out free samples to attract customers. This is the most promising means of getting a bite to eat. The following are a list of promotions that offer a free tummy tamer to help get you through the day.
McDonald’s breakfast club
You can get a free breakfast sandwich from McDonald’s if you print out their online coupon at this website: Morning Impaired
Free Food Samples
This website has all kinds of links to promotions that offer free samples of food products.
Another Food Sample website
I don’t have any addresses for you, but there are always homeless shelters, churches, soup kitchens and welfare offices that provide these services and information (if they have enough money to keep them running). Check for those specifically available in your local community.
Do a search for foodbanks in your city. I know that St. Vincent De Paul in Madison Wisconsin has a food bank to shop in for free food.
Now, for those of you who are housing-impaired. Yes, the homeless…or maybe you’re just a free-spirited nomad. There is something for you on the internet.
It’s called CouchSurfing. It’s a website that allows you to get in touch with people all over the world who are willing to open their homes to strangers.
I know…it’s weird.
But at least there’s hope. So, if you have internet access, you may have a home.
OK, maybe I am exaggerating. It’s not for the homeless. I haven’t used it (although I am registered), but basically, I think the premise is that if you find yourself in a strange part of the world (for example, Africa, Australia, Europe…whatever) and you need a place to crash for a few nights, these guys open their homes to you. There has to be a mutual agreement made online first, of course. So, if you are homeless and/or jobless and you just need to get a job offer in Canada or something and you need a place to stay until you can get your own apartment or something…this is a good way to meet people.
It’s also great, because they can tell you about the area and what to look out for.
Then there is always the second option:
- Look for homeless shelters in your areas.
For all your other “free-loader” needs, go to TotallyFreeStuff.com. The great thing about this website is that you don’t have to fill out a long survey and/or buy any products to qualify for the freebie. Just let them know where to send it to, because it’s usually a product offer that comes with a coupon or a free sample to encourage business anyway.
So, there you have it!
I hope that helps.
And I hope your financial difficulties will soon be over.
