According to the latest news from Showbiz Spy, Lindsay Lohan has just been sentenced to 90 days in jail. She received the stiff 90 day jail sentence after her court hearing yesterday, when she was asked by a California judge why she hadn’t attended the mandated alcohol education classes. When Lohan couldn’t provide a satisfactory answer except for “I did the best I could”, the judge sentenced her to 90 days in jail. (Now you do have to wonder about a girl who can’t show up for alcohol education classes, but can show up to go out partying every night). Lindsay Lohan’s jail sentence will begin on July 20th, 2010. But, all of this got me thinking, what will happen to Lindsay Lohan during her 90 days in jail and how will it affect her career?
Segregation From Other Prisoners – If Lindsay Lohan’s 90 days in jail is anything like Paris Hilton’s couple of jail days, Lohan will be segregated from other prisoners. As a celebrity, it doesn’t serve anyone’s best interests to have Lohan in with all the other prisoners, so a lonely segregation in her own cell is likely to be the result. Now, for someone who enjoys reading, writing or watching TV, this wouldn’t be that bad. For Lindsay Lohan, who strikes me as the type who’s never opened a book, it could be a problem. Segregation messes with your mind.
Lindsay Lohan’s Career Will Take a Dive – It’s highly likely this 90 day jail sentence will severely negatively impact Lindsay Lohan’s career. When you act in movies, to hire you, the producer has to be able to get insurance for you for anything that might happen during filming. Lindsay Lohan has already had problems getting jobs since her conviction and SCRAM anklet, as many insurance companies won’t insure her. She’s too much of a risk. Now she’s violated her parole and is going to jail for 90 days, she has proved she can’t be trusted. It’s highly unlikely therefore any insurance company will hire her when she gets out of jail. Too expensive of a risk. So there goes the movie career. At least for the foreseeable future.
Lindsay Lohan’s Reputation – A 90 day jail sentence will hammer anyone’s reputation. For Lindsay Lohan, who’s reputation is already in the toilet, she’s lost any sympathy or respect a less troubled person would get. In the movie industry, some bad behavior is not only accepted it’s sort of expected. But, when you become nothing but a ‘problem child’, like Lohan has, the public’s perception goes from somewhat admiration to downright disgust. Lohan hit that mark a while ago. Now, with the jail sentence, her reputation is damaged beyond repair. An actress with this kind of baggage, particularly one who is only in their early 20s, is marked for life. My guess is she might want to start thinking about another career as when all the publicity you’re getting is about your bad behavior – newsflash, you’re done.
Future Court Appearances – Once Lohan is out of jail, it still won’t be over. She’ll be expected to show up to a parole officer and serve out the rest of her parole. If she does something to violate the terms of that parole (which she probably will), she’ll be back in court again then back in jail again. Like I said, not a good risk for any movie production company.
At this point, unless she drastically turns her life around, Lindsay Lohan’s career as a high-level actress is just about over. You don’t have repeated alcohol and drug violations, DUIs, parole violations and 90 days in jail and have movie companies knocking down your door desperate to hire you.
As sad as it is, as she is is talented, while Lindsay Lohan is in jail she might want to think about another career, as this one is all but done. Sad but true.
