What do you do when God’s law differs from governmental law? This is often a question you have to ask yourself as a Christian. Many non-Christian people get angry at Christian’s who stand up for what they believe. Two particular cases are homosexuality and abortion.
Today, homosexuality has become the popular movement in the sexual revolution. Gay people have come out of “the closet” and now want to be able to marry each other. There are two sides to the fight; one side wants to uphold the sanctity of marriage. The other side believes they deserve to have equal rights when it comes to marriage. They believe anybody who loves each other should be allowed to marry each other. The people of California voted to uphold the sanctity of marriage. A judge in California decided to overturn the vote because he believed it was unconstitutional. He believes this vote denies gay people equal protection and due process. There are stories on the internet affirming that judge Vaughn Walker is gay. This would be interesting if it turns out to be true. The problem with this ruling is Judge Vaughn Walker wants to force all fifty states into having to perform gay marriages.
We are discussing gay marriage in the United States of America. As a Christian person it is important to see what God thinks about homosexuality. Genesis 2:24 For this reason a man will leave his father and mother and be united to his wife, and they will become one flesh. [NIV]
Leviticus 18:22 Do not lie with a man as one lies with a woman; that is detestable. [NIV]
Leviticus 20:13 If a man lies with a man as one lies with a woman, both of them have done what is detestable. They must be put to death; their blood will be on their own heads. [NIV]
Romans 1:26-27 Because of this, God gave them over to shameful lusts. Even their women exchanged natural relations for unnatural ones. In the same way the men also abandoned natural relations with women and were inflamed with lust for one another. Men committed indecent acts with other men, and received in themselves the due penalty for their perversion. [NIV]
1 Cor. 6:9-10 Do you not know that the wicked will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived: Neither the sexually immoral nor idolaters nor adulterers nor male prostitutes nor homosexual offenders nor thieves nor the greedy nor drunkards nor slanderers nor swindlers will inherit the kingdom of God. [NIV]
Scripture shows us that God is completely against homosexuality and gay marriage. As Christian people it is our duty to stand up for the sanctity of marriage and against gay marriage. In the New Testament, Paul teaches us that homosexuality is a sin. Homosexuality is like all sins. Once you become a Christian, you must stop your life of homosexuality.
Romans 6:20-23 For when you were slaves of sin, you were free in regard to righteousness. Therefore what benefit were you then deriving from the things of which you are now ashamed? For the outcome of those things is death. But now having been freed from sin and enslaved to God, you derive your benefit, resulting in sanctification, and the outcome, eternal life. For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.
The decision you must make is not a decision about being homosexual or not. The decision is turning your life over to God and walking away from your sinful nature. We are all sinners and have fallen short of the Glory of God. Jesus died on the cross for all our sins, He rose from the grave and defeated death and Satan. This is how the Christian’s law differs from governmental law. God tells us homosexuality is wrong, it is a sin. The world may decide to allow homosexuality and gay marriage. Both are against our beliefs as Christians. We must stand up against gay marriage. It is our duty as Christian people.
How should the Christian person treat Gay people? Gay people are lost in their sins just like the rest of non-Christian people. They are people who God loves. He does not love homosexuality, but God loves people. Homosexuality is sin. It is wrong. We should not look at homosexuality as anything different than what it is. Homosexuals are just like the rest of the people in the world who are lost souls. Christian people should treat gay people with compassion and love. We should show them that God loves them. We should explain to them that Jesus also died for them. They are people who God loves. We also need to help them understand that their homosexual lifestyle is a lifestyle of sin. Remember, we have all sinned and have fallen short of the glory of God. When a homosexual becomes a Christian, they must let go of their sinful nature. They must live a new life as a Christian. We must show them this in a loving Christian way.
Many people in the world have a misinformed idea about Christianity. Because we do not believe homosexuality, pornography, abortion, etc. are acceptable. Many people look at Christian people as radical and uncaring. This is not true. We love the people and we hate the sin. Paul let everybody know he was the least of Christians. He was a sinner. We are all sinners. Christian people are not radical or uncaring. We are told that we must stand up for Christian beliefs. God tells us to teach the truth, His truth.
Remember to show gay people that God loves them. Show them Godly compassion. While you are showing love and compassion, stand up for what is right. Stand up against what is wrong. Gay marriage is wrong in the eyes of God. The homosexual lifestyle is wrong in the eyes of God. It is a sin. Stand up for the sanctity of marriage. Show the world the love of God, but stand up against governmental laws that are against the teachings of Christianity. Remember, to do everything in love.
