I have plied my hands at many different trades in my years. Unsurprisingly one of my earliest gigs was as a radio station mascot for live broadcast events in and around the Fairfield County Connecticut and Westchester County New York areas. My brush was broad as the 98Q Kangaroo; some spots I’ll never forget include the stunning country clubs we visited. The clubs were each meticulously polished; some were exclusive; but that didn’t stop the 98Q sales department from being able to book us there for a live event. Here is my experience with three different country clubs in Westchester County New York and Fairfield County Connecticut.
Sleepy Hollow Country Club (777 Albany Post Rd Scarborough NY 10510.): One of the first things you notice about a place like Sleepy Hollow New York is how the whole area feels frozen in time. Washington Irving certainly thought so; his Headless Horseman character that haunts the humble Ichabod Crane is well known lore. Sleepy Hollow Country Club is one of the most highly regarded country clubs in the nation. Sleepy Hollow Country Club is well known for many of its more striking features: two prestigious golf courses, wonderfully appointed horseback riding facility, clay tennis courts, and grand swimming pools. Sleepy Hollow Country Club also has the benefit of sharing access with some 900 acres which are part of the Rockefeller State Park Preserve along the Hudson River.
Ridgewood Country Club (119 Franklin Street Danbury CT 06810. 203-743-4491.): Another lovely spot in Danbury Connecticut where I played my part were numerous events at the Ridgewood Country Club. Ridgewood Country Club has something for everyone in the highly divergent town of Danbury. That is, the population of this city are not all country club types; however the segment of town that are don’t want to have to travel to Westchester or Trumbull to take Sally to her riding lessons. Ridgewood has horseback riding as well as tennis, golf, and swimming. Ridgewood Country Club also hosts a number of events like Oktoberfest, Halloween, and Thanksgiving coming up in the fall.
Westchester Country Club (99 Biltmore Ave Rye, NY 10580. 914-967-6000): One of the more prestigious country clubs in the nation, the Westchester Country Club was not one of the destinations on my 98Q tour. I was, however, guest at my friends Trevor and Marlene’s wedding in their decadent Biltmore Room. The Biltmore Room at the Westchester Country Club is a grand ballroom which was streaming in sunlight from the floor to ceiling windows on the day of my dear friend’s nuptials. The scene was resplendent, the bride was breathtaking, but one thing I will not forget about this wedding was the food. Not so much the individual entrees; American fine dining cuisine; but the experience of the food was what really got to me. And their dark chocolate mousse dessert was unbelievable!
Fairfield County Connecticut and Westchester County New York are really nice places to live, work, and raise a family. If you’re in the area and looking for some country club action, check out these three area clubs and see if you two can make a connection.
