The USA vs. Algeria soccer game on Wednesday, June 23rd, 2010 at the 2010 FIFA World Cup will go down as the greatest game in USA soccer history. With less than three minutes to go and team USA on the brink of elimination from the World Cup, Landon Donovan can be seen racing down the field with the ball in a sense of urgency akin to that of someone blazing down the interstate at 100 mph in order to get their bleeding-to-death daughter to the emergency room and then punctuating the arrival with an incredible life-saving shot off a goalie who came within inches of grabbing the ball to complete the jugular cut and snuff out the life of team USA.

Tears & Celebration:
Upon the ball reaching the net for the game-winning kick, Donovan could be seen sliding across the grass like a kid being propelled down his slip-n-slide for the first time. Within seconds of reaching the end of his slide a swarming mass of U.S. teammates engulfed him in a hog pile more likely seen in the sport of American football.
The USA vs. Algeria 2010 World Cup game was the biggest game of Donovan’s life. “Hands down the biggest moment of my career,” said Donovan, who grabbed the ball out of the back of the net and kicked it into the stands, according to latimes.com. Later, at a postgame news conference, Landon Donovan broke down as he was filled with emotion.
“I’ve been through a lot in the past four years,” Donovan said. “I’m so glad it culminated this way. It makes me believe in good in the world and if you try to do things the right way it’s good to see it get reward.”
U.S. Coach Bob Bradley, who patted Donovan on the shoulder as he cried, said, “I think these kind of challenges came at a good time for him, and he’s never shied away from challenges,” he said.
Its Been A Tough Go On USA Soccer & Donovan:
The USA vs. Algeria 2010 World Cup soccer game was monumental and defining on many fronts. First, the Americans had never won a third game in a World Cup. Secondly, they have gone out in group play five of the last seven tournaments. Even a tie or draw in this USA vs. Algeria 2010 World Cup match would have sent team USA packing again.
With the win, the U.S. advanced in the standings over England in their Group C division and will face Ghana in a second round match that will be played this Saturday in Rustenburg. Ghana, in its third match, lost to Germany 1-0 and ended up in second place in the Group D division. However, Ghana did become the first African team to make the round of 16 at the first World Cup held on their continent.
The USA vs. Algeria 2010 World Cup soccer game spelled redemption of many sorts for Donovan. His lowest point came in 2006 after the U.S. team failed to make it through to the second round of the World Cup and Donovan was subjected to personal criticism following three sub-par performances. Then, last July he went through more personal pain as he separated from his actress wife, Bianca Kajlich.
The USA vs. Algeria 2010 World Cup soccer game now makes up for many of the losses experienced by Donovan and Team USA.
