Summer is prime time for watching great movies. With all the good movie releases coming up in 2010, which ones will you likely be viewing with your tween? Here are some picks that may show up on your tween’s list of summer movie must-sees.
Marmaduke. The Great Dane comic strip canine goes Hollywood on June 4, 2010 in this family comedy featuring the voice of Owen Wilson as Marmaduke. William Macy and Judy Greer play the human counterparts in the movie. Kids and tweens are often fond of the jokes of talking dogs, so be prepared for some rude humor and language. Other celebrity voices will be that of Fergie, George Lopez, and the Wayans Brothers. This summer movie is rated PG.
The Karate Kid. The modern day remake of the ’80s classic movie finds 12 year old Dre Parker (Jaden Smith) in quite a predicament when he moves to China from Detroit. Dre is harassed by the class bully and seeks guidance, friendship and martial arts instruction from the maintenance man, Mr. Han (Jackie Chan). The Karate Kid will be released this summer on June 11 and is rated PG for bullying, martial arts action violence and some mild language.
Toy Story 3. The third installment of the computer-animated Toy Story series is a must-see for kids and parents who were fans of the first two movies. Andy is on his way to college, while his beloved toys go on an accidental adventure to Sunnyside Day Care this summer. Toy Story 3 will be available in 3-D beginning June 18, 2010.
The Twilight Saga: Eclipse. Tweens and teens can’t seem to get enough of the Twilight Saga movies. In Eclipse, Victoria brings her troop of newborn vampires to Seattle, intent on getting revenge on Bella and causing havoc for the Cullen clan and Quilete wolves. The Twilight Saga: Eclipse could have a stronger rating than its predecessors due to its battle scenes. Eclipse premiers in theaters on June 30.
The Last Airbender. When the Fire nation begins a war with the Air, Water, and Earth nations, the people are depending on Aang (Noah Ringer), the Avatar, to save them because he has the power to control all four elements. The movie also stars Nicola Peltz as Katara the Waterbender and Jackson Rathbone as Sokka. This fantasy action summer flick will be released on July 2, 2010.
Despicable Me is an animated family comedy that tweens will find funny for its rude humor and mild action, which gives it a rating of PG. Steve Carell voices the main character, who is plotting to somehow steal the moon. His plans are put on hold when he is faced with parenting three little orphaned girls. This summer movie, which also features the voices of Kristen Wiig and Russell Brand, hits theaters July 9, 2010.
The Sorcerer’s Apprentice is a Walt Disney Studios production about a sorcerer (Nicolas Cage) who attempts to battle good and evil along with his unlucky and unlikely apprentice (Jay Baruchel) in Manhattan. This comedy premieres on July 16, 2010.
Ramona and Beezus. Based on the award-winning Beverly Cleary books, Ramona and Beezus will be a hit among tweens who are fans of Selena Gomez (Alex on Disney’s Wizards of Waverly Place.) Gomez plays older sister, Beezus. The mischievous Ramona Quimby, played by Joey King, tries to save her family’s home in this charming summer movie that is rated G and debuts on July 23, 2010.
Cats & Dogs: Revenge of Kitty Galore is the sequal to 2001’s Cats & Dogs. Kitty Galore (voiced by Bette Midler) hatches an evil plot to take down her canine and feline frenemies. Other recognizable voices are Alec Baldwin, Tobey Maguire, and Chris O’Donell. This 3-D summer movie will be unleashed on July 30, 2010.
Camp Rock 2: The Final Jam. No trip to the movie theater is necessary, as this is a Disney Channel original movie follow-up to Camp Rock. In Camp Rock 2: The Final Jam, Mitchie (Demi Lovato) and Shane (Joe Jonas) are back to face the rivals, Camp Star. The final installment in the summer series promises more dancing and entertainment from Jonas Brothers, Meaghan Jett Martin, Alyson Stoner, Roshon Fegan, Chloe Bridges and more. Rumored to be released in June or July 2010, it has been reported by Just Jared, Jr. that Camp Rock 2 will air on the late summer date of September 3, 2010
