Forget about Glee’s canon couples: Finn and Rachel (Finchel), Puck and Rachel (Puckleberry), Puck and Quinn (Quick), Will and Emma (Wemma), and Artie and Tina (Artina). Aside from Artie and Tina, Glee’s pairings have become a bit too predictable.
Why not take the show in a different direction with some out of the box couples? Some of these matches are surprisingly appealing.
Sue Sylvester and Principal Figgins: These two are well-matched because they have a gift for comedic timing, delivery, and one-liners. And Sue must have found him at least somewhat attractive if she was willing to sleep with him in order to obtain incriminating photos for blackmailing purposes.
Mike (“Other Asian”) and Mercedes: He’s a fabulous dancer. Her vocals have had more fantastic runs than a Kenyan track team. Between his dancing and her singing, they would be an unstoppable combination. Mercedes, a powerhouse soloist, could help Mike come out of his shell. And he could teach her how to pop and lock, and lose weight in a healthy way (if she so chooses).
Puck and Shelby (Idina Menzel): Given Lea Michele’s uncanny resemblance to Idina Menzel, Puckleberry shippers can have their next best option in the form of Puck and an older version of Rachel. He does have a thing for cougars as well as hot Jewish girls. And unlike Quinn, Shelby “fully understands what it’s like to be a Jew.”
Ken Tanaka and Terri Schuester: She’s worried about the fact that his ambiguous background leaves their children susceptible to genetic disorders. And she’s probably not keen on his lack of hygiene and the fact that he was rejected by a germophobic virgin. Still, they’d have a compelling motive to hook up: revenge. Besides, a hot fling with a crazy lady on the rebound might give him the boost of confidence to clean up in the hygiene department.
Finn and Brittany: It would be a match of a popular athlete and a popular cheerleader, both former lapdogs for Quinn. He’s a lovable lunkhead and she’s a lovable airhead. Just think of the comedic one-liners that would come out of their conversations. Besides, Finn and Brittany have something else in common: both seem to have slept with Santana.
Jesse (Jonathan Groff) and Kurt: Most viewers have suspected that Jesse’s intentions with Rachel may be less than honorable. However, instead of trying to bring down Glee Club, what if Jesse’s motives were Rachel were to help conceal a secret relationship with Kurt? Jesse did make that comment about sexuality and “fluidity” when watching the Physical video. And Kurt needs a new love interest. His crush on Finn is bordering on pathetic.
