The unemployment extension 2010 was passed weeks ago and still many people have not received their retro or weekly benefit checks. Readers write in that they check their accounts daily and still no funds have been deposited from the unemployment benefits.
Many states are paying the retro checks in one lump sum, such as New York and other states like California are sending retro unemployment benefits in two week increments.
The amount of hardship put upon the unemployed waiting for the Unemployment Extension Bill 2010 to pass has only opened up in more hardship while waiting for the states to get their antiquated systems processed to get these checks out. This has to have resulted in financial crisis for many households.
The states that had the unemployed continue filing their claims while waiting for the extension bill to pass seem to have a jump on the other states who did not do this. This isn’t across the board though, there are some exceptions to this rule of thumb.
Many of the states have reported they needed to have their computers update to process this extension round of checks. Some of the computers are old, some are 23 years old in a few of the states.
Here is what the readers are saying about their state’s unemployment benefits for the extension retro checks and the regular weekly benefit checks:
Nevada – Mike says “we are waiting for “The Letter”…. still no “Letter” it’s been 2-week’s since bill passage. Most of my stuff is in the pawn shop. I’m gonna call-em up”
Nevada – Jackie said: “No letter but they added money to my claims page today! I just need to get through the busy phone lines to actually claim the money.”
Missouri, St Louis – “Received 1 check….also received a letter stating that I qualify for benefits, waiting for retro pay.1st tier kicked n Thank-God.”
Missouri – one week unemployment received for June 12, the retro in 3 to 5 weeks!!?? Show me the money “show me” state. “This is an out of state claim, online claim check state ” in person review”. I’m trying to reach them and it is harder than calling Obama”.
Missouri – “Finally was able to talk with someone, was told I will receive retro pay, also told their updating the files, she said it’s gonna take a while.”
Missouri – Melinda says: “INFO ON MISSOURI. I know someone is gonna be glad to see this post because all of us unemployed are H-U-R-T-I-N-G! ok Here it is: I checked my claim online today for retro payments. They owe me for 5 weeks and two will be released today…THANK GOD!!! One was to be released yesterday but has an “issue pending” and two more on August 2nd. Not sure why theyre broke up like that, but wanted to get this posted as I know I have been begging for any info. Now my husband didnt even get the one check this week. His last check was June 2nd and they said his is held up more because it is a new claim extension. ALSO found this info out. There have been a few times when i filed weekly claim, I had to go through answering all the initial pre-claim questions. I always thought that was my filing for the week. NOOO. you have to sign out, then sign back in and file claim then. I lost a weeks pay like this. Now its done every 3 months, so be alert. Hope this helps someone.”
Missouri – GOOD NEWS FOR MISSOURI I got 2 RETRO payments showing released this morning and dates of today for the other 4 checks, but they have a pending issue. Im pretty sure I need to do a monthly check in at the local employment office and that/s it.
Texas – Susan said -“my deposit was processed on July 26 and i got it on July 27– in one day– just like normal. Texas is still including the stimulus money if your claim was started before May.”
Texas – Loren said – It is Aug 4 and I haven’t seen my retro unemployment deposited yet. .
Texas: “Mine shows that it was processed on 7/30. Now the wait continues for the actual deposit.”
New Jersey: “It has been almost 2 weeks since the extension has passed and 6 weeks since I’ve last received an unemloyment check. I still have not received anything and each week when I call I’m getting the same messages “funds are not payable at this time however you will receive credit” I’m on NJ unemployment. Is anyone else out there having this same problem. Has anyone received a check since the extension was approved????? “
Georgia – “Jessica said I also have yet to receive any money!!! Friday (2 days away) will make 9 weeks without a check!!! I also got conflicting information when I contacted my DOL in my city! They said that they were processing people as soon as they were able to, but that there was just too many to get everyone their money by the 30th like they thought they were going to be able to do.”
Georgia- Cliff wrote: “You wrote, “Looks Like Georgia Unemployment can teach the rest of the country how to do this!” I’m in GA and haven’t been paid yet. I think you need to check your facts” (I am sorry to hear this Cliff, one day last week many readers wrote in to say they were receiving their money already. Maybe it is in a different area of your state that has processed the checks already.)
Georgia – Vanessa “I live in Ga. and was told that my check would be mailed out Friday, I called again Monday and it was a different story I am still waiting to be paid its been 6 weeks.”
Georgia -” I am in Georgia, I have been claiming every week and still no money. I don’t wish this on anyone, my daughter starts school next week with nothing. Never mind the fact that I found a bottle of old diet pills that I have been taking as to try to make the little food we have last so that my child will have enough to eat everyday. My power will be cut off next week, as I can’t make any more arrangements with them. This is getting old!!!! “
Georgia Atlanta – “Still no direct deposit of extension payments. I have been certifying each week as instructed to do so that payments would be automatically processed once extension passed. Hopefully tomorrow.”
Texas – Ian said “he was paid everything they owed him on the 28th”.
Texas – “TWC shows 8 weeks were processed today, will receive on my card tomorrow……but the Federal Stimulus was included !!!! Something has gone wrong with the Texas Unemployment program for distributing the money. Will need to return the extra.”
Texas- ” I am in TEXAS and I show mine to be deposited with tomorrows date! “
Texas – Jenn said: “Mine shows tomorrows date and it is paying all the back pay! It does not show the $25.00 that some are claiming they received! It seems like since I just did my regular 2 week payment request yesterday, is why I am finally getting all my money! guess they want to process the funds at the same time!”
Tennessee – No name wrote: “I called the local career center and asked for help on my unemployment and they called me back. I received my back pay checks today and started certifying this week. TENNESSEE people call your local career center its faster and easier they fixed mine within few minutes”
Tennessee Nashville– “I have not been able to recertify since the last week of June and my benefits were exhausted…I haven’t heard anything about getting back pay and all this time bills keep piling up I just don’t know what to do anymore
Tennessee- Brandi said – “Called Tennessee career center yesterday left message for someone to call me back and today they actually did. The lady did my claim over the phone and mailing my back pay out Monday and told me to begin certify this week. It was faster than waiting on letters so hopefully its all true.. Just call Tennessee career center and they can do it for you. Hope this helps,”
Tennessee Nashville – No Name: “No news, no phone calls and NO LETTER. No updates on Tennessee site. No way to file a claim. And no answers. Whats going on in Tennessee?????”
Kansas – No name wrote that “he has not received anything from unemployment and the phone for the state unemployment department is always busy no matter hour of the day he calls”.Colorado Davidson .– “The last update on the website was on the 28th and nothing since that time. There is no mention when to expect to receive a letter.”
Louisiana – Britany says: “Is there anyone also from Louisiana that knows anything else. Or have you gotten through on the one and only phone number that Louisiana has? I cant get through all it says is to call back, because the call volume is high. it is so sad that there is only one phone number for unemployment in Louisiana.”
New York – Still absolutely nothing……
New York- Ed said: “Checking the New York Unemployment site daily as well as my direct deposit account and nothing yet”.
Arizona – “My back funds have supposedly been released since thursday and I still have no funds on my debit card. I will call again and see what’s going on. I need the money I can’t pay my rent without it.”
Arizona- – MoMo writes: “Well its been 24hrs nothing yet. :( …… I called the unemployment tips line and it now states that the retro-payment was issued on 07/30 but still nothing in our account. I spoke to a Rep. from the call center were the state issues you the debit card but their stating that they have no record of a deposit. This really sucks, our children start school on Monday and my children have nothing to start school with. We even spoke to a rep from UI department and he verified that our funds had been release on Friday morning. You would think that the bank that is assoicated with the UI department would be set up so that they can make sure the payment post to clients accounts within a reasonable amount of hrs. Specially if they have a recording stipulating that when they receive our beneifts they would be posted to our accounts within 24 hrs. Its been more then 24hrs Chase Bank….. ???????? Where’s our money???????
Florida – Beth said: “Have not received letter in mail, nothing has changed on agency for workforce site. Still showing $0.00 balance for me and information has not even changed since last payment received at the beginning of June. I never did receive a final notice letter back in June either. Has anyone in Florida gotten funds yet or at least a letter in the mail as of today??? “
Ohio – “Received 1 week pay on 7/28/2010. Was told retro will be next week after my request for retro is approved”
This is it for today, if more readers comments come in tomorrow, I will write an update. There seems to be states that are having more problems than others. Hopefully this all gets up and running and everyone gets their money sooner rather than lately. Thanks to each and everyone of you to take the time to write in what you have been experiencing.
These are readers comments, so there is no official information here, just people like yourself trying to make sense of the Unemployment extension benefit hold up for funds.
