The boat was leaving and I wasn’t ready. The people on the boat already had the good seats and I wanted to sit next to my best friend Joe. I frantically grabbed my towel, my iced tea cup, sunglasses and hat and ran to the boat.” Hurry Lois, Hurry”, my best friend was yelling. I knew the boat ride was going to be long and I really needed to visit the ladies room so I yelled, I can’t wait, I need to go up to the ladies room”, so I ran back up the little hill. My friend told the boat captain to please wait. My best friend knew I really wanted to go on the boat ride this time. It was going to be a moonlight cruise up the Mokelumne river and then it was going to stop at the lake’s edge so we could all watch the 4th of July fireworks display that is always at Lodi lake.
Fireworks at the Lake
The 4th of July fireworks display at Lodi lake is beautiful. I’ve never seen it at the lake’s edge where you can go into the park and park along the water’s edge and spread out your chairs and blankets. I’ve always watched the display from the river’s edge, just behind the lake. My sister has relatives that live on the river and we love to go there in the summer. My sister and her husband have a big beautiful Party boat.
Getting a good seat
I managed to wriggle my way onto the boat and also managed a good seat by my best friend Joe. We both smiled at each other in prideful satisfaction as we were among the elite group of boaters that love to go up river to the lake to watch the fireworks. You actually get to see the fireworks from the boat and I knew it was going to be spectacular. I’ve always allowed the young people to go on the moonlight cruise, but this time I really wanted to go. All settled in and comfy we chatted and oohed and awed over the river otters and river turtles along the way.
Getting a good spot at the Lake’s edge
The boat captain slowly edged his way in between 2 other boats up against the lake’s edge so we could all see the Fireworks display. He knew this was my first time at the Lake’s edge and having this perfect view meant a lot to him to make it special. The boat was full so we had to stay in our seats and safely secured in my life preserver I was Happy.
It was dark and we were all ready, as we laughed and chatted the fireworks started. BOOM!!! Oh my gosh I thought I was going to die. The fireworks went off right up over my head and I thought I was going to wet my pants. We were so close and so up underneath the explosions that I thought they were going to land in my lap. I could see them going off. I wanted to scream and run, but I was trapped. Trapped was the very thing I felt as the noise was so loud , but everybody else was loving it. You couldn’t hear anybody talk. We had to crank our heads way back so we could see the beautiful bursts of light way up in the sky. I knew there was nothing anybody could do to calm me down so I just wrapped my sweatshirt around my head , buried my head in my best friends shoulder and leaned back to get a tiny glimpse. I’ve decided that the Lakes edge Fireworks displays are not for me I much prefer to watch them from the shore, snuggled in a blanket, comfy in my lawn chair.
