Undateable: Top 100 Things Guys Do That Guarantee They Won’t Be Dating Or Having Sex, Hour 1, premiered on VH1 Monday night, featuring the “priceless wisdom” of Snooki and JWOWW of Jersey Shore. This 5 part series comes in hour-long segments scheduled to run through Friday (one show per night). The series is based on the book Undateable: 311 Things Guys Do That Guarantee They Won’t be Dating or Having Sex by Ellen Rakieten and Anne Coyle. Various actors, actresses, comedians, and other performers like Snooki and JWOWW from Jersey Shore share their do’s and don’ts of dating. Each of the five shows features a backwards countdown in groups of 20 that discusses what supposedly turns women off.
JWOWW from Jersey Shore Advised Men on “5 Denim Disasters to Avoid” on Undateable, Hour 1
The first show counted down from 100-81 – 20 things that are likely to keep a guy from getting some bellywarming, using actual (often comedic) simulations and photos of men doing various things from farting; wearing “mandanas”, sleevless t-shirts, cellphone’s on one’s waist, etc; arm wrestling in public, and more. Various people in the entertainment industry from Brandy, Patrice O’Neal, Amanda Diva, et al each commented on one or more of the 20 “taboos.” And after commercial breaks, a celebrity like JWOWW gives her Top 5 dating don’ts advice to men, whereas the star of Jersey Shore discussed what kind of jeans men shouldn’t wear. For instance, she warns men to not roll up their britches like Steve Urkel because she won’t give you a second look if you do.
Also throughout Undateable, men should expect quizzes on various things, such as what it means if you wear a camouflage jacket on a date (which in this case means “not getting any.”) And because of this VH1 program, I got other great insights into the meaning of life. Snooki of Jersey Shore doesn’t like guys who have Ninja Turtle sheets on their beds, even though she claimed to date a guy who had them. And Bret Michaels calls quoting lines from movies a “date killer.”
Undateable on VH1 Combines Humor, Common Sense and Foolishness from Celebrities Like Snooki and JWOWW
The show elicits some laughs but also emanates a good amount of plain foolishness. The program reinforces some common sense tips though, like making sure your car is clean before a date, and not to pick your butt on a date, and not to let your cell phone distract you or that you not be a conspicuous farter in public while on a date. But should men really take some of the things on the Undateable countdown seriously, like worrying that they won’t get any bellywarming if they wear a cell phone on their waist, or wear pleated pants (because it makes one look like an Olive Garden manager), or if they order wine at a sports stadium?
Guys looking for some laughs and some insights about women will find this program entertaining enough to keep watching all week. But should men who are looking for a true woman of character really be taking dating advice from people named Snooki and JWOWW?
