UFC 114: Rampage vs. Evans
It figures to be one of the most anticipated main events so far in 2010 when Quinton “Rampage” Jackson takes on Rashad Evans in a Light Heavyweight bout. UFC 114 takes place on May 29, 2010 at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada. An interesting fact about UFC 114 is that it will feature a total of 6 ultimate fighter winners. This is the first time that so many winners have appeared at one event.
Main Event: Rampage Jackson vs. Rashad Evans
UFC fans have been waiting for this matchup to take place ever since the conclusion of Season 10 of the Ultimate Fighter. The outright hatred between these two fighters is widely known and once to both men enter the Octagon there will surely be some fireworks.
Rampage will definitely look to turn this fight into a backyard brawl. Coming off back to back wins in the UFC against the likes of Keith Jardine and Wanderlei Silva, Rampage will look to take down another fighter and get one step closer to another title shot. One of the biggest concerns for Jackson will be “ring rust.” Rampage has spent a lot of time away from the UFC while attending to a movie role in the upcoming A-Team movie. He has not fought since March 2009.
Evans has a lot riding on this fight. Not only does he want to make a statement by beating Rampage, but he also wants to regain the UFC Light Heavyweight belt that he lost to Lyoto Machida in 2009. Coming off an impressive outing against Thiago Silva, Evans will look to fight his fight and not get too caught up in the hype surrounding this main event.
Prediction: Evans by Unanimous Decision
Co-Main Event: Forrest Griffin vs. Antonio Rogerio Nogueira
Forrest Griffin has been up and down several times over the past several years. He either looks really good or really bad in the Octagon. Over his last 5 fights, Griffin is 3-2 with victories over Rampage Jackson, Shogun Rua, and Tito Ortiz. Which Forrest will we see come May 29th remains to be seen.
Nogueira simply has not fought the same caliber fighters as Forrest Griffin. He is relatively new to the UFC with only 1 fight against Luiz Arthur Cane that resulted in a powerful knockout. Should be interesting to see if Nogueira can step up to face the elevated competition in Forrest Griffin.
Prediction: Griffin by KO in 1st Round
Michal Bisping vs. Dan Miller
After coming off a defeat to Wanderlei Silva, Bisping will look to rebound from that loss when he takes on Dan Miller. Miller has lost two consecutive fights against Chael Sonnen and Damian Maia. A tough win against Bisping would definitely boost his confidence and credentials in the UFC.
Prediction: Bisping 2nd Round TKO
