It was a gloomy day when I first met her. The rain was beating on the ground, and made it near impossible to catch a glimpse of her. As I walked down the street time stood still as she drove by me. It seemed like an eternity as I studied her every feature. I was entranced by her every freckle, unable to look away. And as fast as I fell in Love with her my heart fluttered, and she was gone. I blinked and at the end of the road I saw this pathetic orange flower draped downward as if depressed. I jokingly told the flower I knew how it felt, and headed further down the street.
As I got home I could not shake the feeling this girl gave me. I walked in my front door drenched, and looked around. All I could think about was how lonely I was, and that the only person I wanted around was her. I have seen beautiful girls before. Yet they never affected me as this one did. I tried to sleep it off, but all I could dream about was this girl. How I knew how perfect she was without ever hearing her speak a word, and how I longed to hear her speak…just a single word.
At about 2 in the morning I woke up in a cold sweat. I had not really slept, and had to do something. The one recurring thing with all my sleepless dreams had been that one flower. What was so special about that flower? In frenzy I went online and searched orange flower. I saw many results, but none looked as the pathetic flower I saw did. I did not give up though. As if in a frenzy I continued to search, and eventually came upon it. The Michigan Lily was what it is called. Somehow this soothed me, and I was able to sleep.
I woke up in the morning feeling as refreshed as ever. I did not feel as if I had been up all night, and in fact was better than most mornings. I made myself breakfast and joked to myself about how a flower could cause me so much grief. I thought to myself maybe I should plant one of these flowers in my house as a reminder not to become so obsessed with a plant again.
I decided that’s what I would do with my day. I would walk to the local nursery and pick up one of these. One that was healthy though. So I put my coat on, and braved the rain again. As I walked down the road I came across the same lily that had haunted me the night before. At first I chuckled to myself about how I was so entranced by a flower. But as I grew closer to the flower I was intrigued to find it in a different state. The flower stood tall, and was strong. It no longer looked pathetic and weak. As I approached the flower I knelt down beside it to study it.
It truly was a beautiful flower. Orange with bright red spots freckling all over it, I decided this was truly the most gorgeous flower I had seen. As I examined the flower I heard a car coming from down the road. I realized it was pulling over next to me and was astonished to find the girl that had got me all wound up the day before.
She said she had seen me the day before walking in the rain, and was surprised to see me again in bad weather. I told her I was having car trouble, and had to walk to get to town. When she inquired why I was going to town I told her I was heading to the nursery to pick up one of these flowers. She was driving to town and offered me a lift. As I got in the car I asked her what her name was…
