Hollywood stars work out more than the average person to get a bikini body. And, yes, sometimes they fall prey to ridiculous crash diets – but they also do a few things that make sense.
Here are few of the Hollywood Stars and their best ideas for getting off and keeping off the pounds.
No. 1: Kristen Bell combines her social activities with exercise. Instead of lounging around, she takes the dogs on a hike, grabs a bicycle or plays Frisbee with friends.
Should you do it?: Yes. Even if you can’t see friends in person, talk on the phone while using the elliptical or put the cell phone on speaker while walking.
No. 2: Beyonce says she eats six small meals a day, emphasizing fruit and protein.
Should you do it?: Probably not. Fitness expert Jullian Michaels of The Biggest Loser, says it’s better to have three main meals a day and no more than two little snacks. Eating five times a day should be plenty.
No. 3: Carrie Underwood keeps a food diary. The American Idol winner says she tries to monitor her snacking so it does not get out of control.
Should you do it?: Yes. Experts say using a food diary can dramatically increase your odds of success. It doesn’t need to be a fancy diary – just a plain notebook will suffice.
No. 4: Jennifer Aniston rarely misses a workout. She is reported as having tried the extreme “baby food diet,” or the “baby food cleanse” which involves 14 portions of pureed foods each day.
Should you try it?: Sort of. It’s OK to eat more soups, smoothies and easy-to-digest foods, but eating mostly purred foods throughout the day is absurd if you aren’t in front of a camera all of the time.
No. 5: Jennifer Garner says she made healthful smoothies with banana, mangoes and spinach. She also gave up treats such as muffins.
Should you try it?: Yes and no. Add in the healthful foods Garner enjoys, but don’t deprive yourself to the extent she did in order to slim down after having had her baby. She looked fine before losing weight.
No. 6: Kristin Davis, the Sex and the City 2 star who plays Charlotte, told Fitness magazine she had to take a break from running but uses the elliptical for 30 to 45 minutes and relies on yoga and Pilates moves to tone her core.
Should you try it?: Yes. Kristin Davis has always kept a healthy appearance. She does not appear to be anorexic or fanatical about her eating or exercising. She looks great!
Most experts say the extreme diets adopted by Hollywood stars are fine for a short time – to get into a bikini, for example – but not suitable for the long term. Use caution before attempting any miracle bikini diets. And use this rule of thumb. If you aren’t having at least some fun with it – it’s probably too extreme.
