HBO has never shied away from controversy; the newer HBO show “True Blood” is not immune to this allure. According to reports from the NYDailyNews.com, “True Blood” actor Alexander Skarsgard needs to keep things as real as possible onscreen. “I don’t want a sock around it,” Skarsgard said, “that feels ridiculous.”
So it goes for the cast of “True Blood” on the latest issue of Rolling Stone. The Rolling Stone cover story, “The Joy of Vampire Sex,” is almost comically nude with Skarsgard, Anna Paquin, and Stephen Moyer all in a human and blood sandwich, bearing their all. But how will this “True Blood” cover story fare for these performers in the long run? Vampires are trendy right now, of course, but will vampires in the future need to be naked to sell magazines?
Demi Moore Vanity Fair:
No one has ever accused Annie Leibovitz of being shy with the camera; perhaps one of her more memorable shots in recent years has to be the Demi Moore Vanity Fair cover in 1991, when Moore was pregnant with then-husband Bruce Willis’ child. Moore’s photograph sparked a great interest in the pregnant female figure; something which would go on in surprising ways.
Britney Spears Vanity Fair:
Toward the beginning of her downward spiral probably had to be when Britney Spears sold out her then virtually bursting pregnant images to Vanity Fair in exchange for a cool 3 million bucks. Many viewed this move with some disdain and not as much interest as perhaps Spears handlers had wished.
Claudia Shiffer Vogue Germany:
Add supermodel Claudia Shiffer to the list of pregnant and naked magazine covers. In June 2010, Shiffer posed in an almost identical pose to the one Demi Moore did nearly 20 years earlier. Shiffer is a beautiful older woman, and should earn the accolades of many fans in her industry and around the world.
Lady Gaga Vanity Fair:
Not to be outdone by Spears, Shiffer, or Moore, controversy hound Lady Gaga posed nude on the cover of the September issue of Vanity Fair…and she wasn’t even pregnant. Lady Gaga seems to be more in keeping with the “True Blood” nudity, as it is just excessive and not at all revealing. While pregnant nudes have been artsy and beautiful, I think that Lady Gaga and nude vampires will just leave people yawning and walking away.
