Wherever there are tourists and beaches, the parties and good nightlife can never be far. Penang delivers an abundant nightlife and in various places romantic settings in and around old heritage buildings and outlets. The atmosphere at night is friendly and safe, the sea, the beach or the boulevards are never far away.
In Penang the tourist definitely does not have to get bored, as the nightlife thrives here in many areas of the city George Town, and close to the Northern shores towards Batu Feringhi
Hotspots are found in three main areas on the island, Heritage district, Gurney Drive, Batu Feringhi
The Penang Heritage District
The Heritage District has many night eateries, pubs, bars and little kopitiams (local coffee shops) to start of the night, hang out with friends, or just meet new people. However the main area to go dancing and have a great night out in the Heritage District is at Upper Penang Road, a good landmark is the Cititel Hotel which stands out from all the low level buildings, and right from there walk into the party zone, bars, pubs and discos in one long stretch, names like, Slippery Senoritas, Game, Uptown, Smokey Jack, Rain, Momo, Soho will keep party people awake during the nights out. Some of Malaysia’s top deejays can be found behind their turn tables in these party temples too.
Penang Gurney Drive
One long boulevard of almost two kilometers, where luxury water front hotels, service apartments and condominiums reach as far as the eye can see. Spread out along the sea side walkway find the wonderful venues to start a night out. Little eateries with local and international fare, kopitiams, coffee houses, hawker centers and food courts, place where travelers can wine and dine, and make a relaxed start of the evening. Some are a bit more luxurious than others, but one can feel comfortable anywhere, visit Bali Hai, Island Coffee, The Porch and Northam Beach Café, all have a beautiful seaside view.
Most hotels offer one or two haute cuisine restaurants where one can dine in a more up class location. The same hotels offer nightlife opportunities in their in house discos and bars, and live bands can be found here too.
Penang Batu Feringhi
Three kilometers of luxury hotels, beautiful condominiums and service apartments all facing the Straits of Malacca North of Penang. Three kilometers of pristine white sandy beaches must attract thousands of travelers every single month. Guaranteed nightlife all along the stretch and never go bored. Every night there is a night market where tourists and locals alike can shop till the drop and the bargaining never ends. Small eateries, seafood restaurants and outlets with all the local fare but also dishes from Italy, the Middle East, Greece, USA and many others can be found here. Finish the night with a long stroll along the beach, sit in the sand and enjoy the sounds of the surf and the booming sounds of the Batu Feringhi nightlife in the background.
September 2009 the first ever Hard Rock Hotel in Malaysia was opened at Batu Feringhi, with the Hard Rock Café (HRC) next door, parties are guaranteed at this house of rock.
Tanjung City Marina
The Tanjung City Marina offers a sea front view of the arriving ferries, ships, cruise liners and yachts. Nestle and enjoy at this harbor front with the Pinang Bridge in the back ground.
Other Areas in Penang
Spread around the island, Teluk Bahang, Tanjung Bungah beach area and in Georgetown at Lebuh Leith, Lebuh Campbell, Lebuh Gereja and Pangkalan Weld offer night entertainment too. Chinese love to sing their karaoke songs till deep at night, many karaoke joints can be found all over the island.
Wherever the traveler roams on the island, Penang offers great nightlife adventures. Whether suffering from jet lag or simply a party animal, Penang has many night spots to keep visitors wide awake to the wee-hours of the morning.
