I’ve been writing online for five years and at Associated Content for three and a half years. One question that I’m asked frequently is, ‘where do you come up with ideas for articles’? The short answer is ‘everywhere’. The more detailed answer lies in these ten sources. This is the culmination of five years of trial and error for article content sources.
Daily News: Each day, I explore the breaking stories for events to cover in an article. I do not simply rehash what has been stated.
Celebrity Obituaries: I try to cover obituaries of well-known faces. In particular, I watch for world political, religious and social figures and older celebrities. I look for that fresh angle.
Politics: Are you a political junkie? Keep your readers updated on politics, government, law and current issues.
Arts and Entertainment News: What speaker, singer, band or popular group is appearing nearby? What author has recently been published? I occasionally write television show updates. These articles are remarkably popular, if keyworded properly and attention is paid to SEO.
Product Reviews: I hadn’t dabbled much in product reviews for the first several years of writing. Now I’m writing about 2-3 per week. Readers look for information ‘from the consumer’s mouth’. And remember, you don’t have to write a glowing product review. Describe the down side for readers. We need to know what to beware of as we navigate the huge world of commercial trade.
Digital and technology reviews: Cell phones, music players, Nook, Iphones, Ipods, Ipads, computer gadgets and gizmos: these topics tend to be very popular. Remember to include the specific brand name and model number of the product.
Home entertainment : Online gaming applications, MMORPGs, video games and platform and technical gaming gadget reviews do very well.
Sports Previews and Reviews: Sports news has a cult following. I probably know more about the sex life of the tsetse fly than I do about sports, so clearly sports articles won’t be my forte. But sports articles get read, so if you have interest in sports, this is your venue. Oh, and remember that there are many different sports to cover.
Lesson Plans and Education Resources: My Google Adsense account lists ‘education’ as my second most popular keyword from my blogs.
Holidays and Seasons: I follow the seasons and holidays with content. One of the nicest things about holiday and seasonal content is that it usually gets a new burst of page views each year as the season approaches.
