Are you looking for a great restaurant to have a romantic dinner in Wilmington, NC? You’re in the right city because Wilmington has some of the best eateries in the South!
Port Land Grille
1908 Eastwood Rd
Port Land Grille is a favorite restaurant of ours when celebrating special occasions. Port Land Grille has been open since November 2000. They serve progressive American regional cuisine which is prepared by chef owner Shawn Wellersdick. Chef Shawn believes in seeking out local food sources from Wilmington for his restaurant. From land to sea, Port Land Grille has something for everyone on their wood fire grill.
Some of their menu options include appetizers of shrimp, oysters, and soups, main dishes of flounder, yellowfin tuna, scallops, rock bass, lamb, and steaks. Take a look at these samples from their menu:
“CHICKEN-FRIED” FRESH LOCAL FLOUNDER (Wrightsville Beach) over “dirty” style farro, ale & malt vinegar braised collard greens with an ancho chili remoulade & a green Tabasco – caramelized shallot gravy
HARDWOOD GRILLED CERTIFIED USDA PRIME FILET MIGNON with four cheese – roasted shallot – smoked paprika twice baked potato, thyme buttered tiny green beans, cipollini onions and our aged balsamic, Maytag blue cheese roasted garlic glaze
Doesn’t that make your mouth water?! Expect each main entree to cost around $25-35. Appetizers are $5 to $15, Desserts and Cheeses will cost from $4 to $10.
Chef Shawn’s wife Anne puts together quite an extensive wine list. Port Land Grille has around 5 champagnes, 20 to 25 red & white wines, and over 20 ports and dessert wines.
Port Land Grille has many awards to its name, including 2005 Distinguished Restaurants of America award, Best of the Beach, Top 2008 Chefs, and many others.

Circa 1922 is located in downtown Wilmington near the waterfront. I love eating here for their sushi and tapas.
Circa serves salads, seafood, paella, sushi and sashimi, pasta, select meats, and desserts. Circa 1922’s tapas selection can’t be beat. They have cheeses, thai meats, tuna, shrimp, bruschetta, olives, pastrami, chorizo, plus more.
The Tapas menu will only cost you $4 to $5. A main entree will be around $10-20. Starters range from $6 to $10, and desserts are $9.50. Check Circa 1922’s website for specials and nightly deals.
You’ll definitely enjoy each other’s company here without being in a loud, overly crowded environment. After dinner, you’re right on the Cape Fear Riverwalk for a romantic stroll under the stars.

The Pilot House Restaurant is another elegant, romantic choice that’s actually on the Cape Fear River. It’s mission has been to serve up traditional Southern cuisine made from scratch.
The Pilot House serves up awesome starters like ribs, crab, oysters, and calamari. For the lighter appetites, you can order a salad. Entrees at the Pilot House are anything from chicken to duck to seafood selections. Their menu is rather large, but that’s a good thing in my opinion. Even though I’ve only had a few of their entrees, all of their items sound just as delicious!
To make your dining experience at the Pilot House more romantic, choose to have dinner outside at sunset if the weather is right.
