Even though you might have paid a pretty penny for your Disney vacation, there are a number of things you can enjoy completely free of charge during your visit. The Walt Disney World Resort in Orlando is home to several admission-free areas and hosts a number of activities that are free to all visitors throughout the year. If you want to make the most of your Disney experience and are interested in keeping vacation costs as low as possible, make sure you add one or all of these top five free experiences at Disney World to your itinerary!
1. Watch the Electrical Water Pageant.
Few people know that there is a special water event that takes place on Seven Seas Lagoon each night in front of the Magic Kingdom. This magical light show consists of several decorated barges, and you can see the show as you’re traveling on the monorail from the Magic Kingdom, or if you manage to settle in at the beach of the Grand Floridian or Polynesian resort.
2. Free fireworks show.
Make your way to Disney’s Boardwalk and the area around Disney’s Yacht Club to catch the EPCOT fireworks show that starts promptly at 9 p.m. Even though a good portion of The Illuminations: Reflections of the Earth fireworks show takes place on the water, you can still see the entire sky light up with fireworks without getting into the theme park. This show takes place every night year round.
3. Access to Downtown Disney.
Downtown Disney is open to the public year round and can be a fun destination to spend the night people-watching and window shopping. Head to the Downtown Disney Marketplace to visit the world’s largest Disney store, admire the LEGO exhibits around the LEGO store, or attend one of the festivals and special events scheduled at this Disney destination throughout the year.
4. Magic shows and entertainment in Disney’s Boardwalk.
Disney’s Boardwalk is located right next to EPCOT and is a great place to catch some live street performances, including magic shows, music and entertainment. The performer lineup changes throughout the week, but you can catch most of them performing right in front of the main entrance to the Boardwalk.
5. Free chocolate at the Ghirardelli store in Downtown Disney.
The Ghirardelli Soda Fountain and Chocolate Shop serves dozens of ice cream concoctions and frozen treats, and also hands out free chocolate squares in its gift shop each day. Head to the store to pick up the latest sample, then make your way to the ice cream bar for a sundae and other sweet treats.
