Backpack styles these days are both numerous and varied. They come in a wide variety of colors, sizes and themes. Character backpacks, those that are based on cartoon characters in particular, are also quite diverse. Motifs are both contemporary and classic, bold and subtle. Wading through the enormous assortment of cartoon inspired backpacks can be an overwhelming enterprise to say the least.
Fortunately I have narrowed down what I perceive as the top five cartoon backpacks and provided a few resources and tips for helping you to find the right one. You will find links to my favorite backpacks in each category throughout this article.
With Disney Pixar’s recent release of the latest Toy Story installment, Toy Story 3, backpacks have hit the store shelves featuring the characters, Buzz Lightyear, Sheriff Woody, and Jessie. This one also brings in some of the less popular characters such as T-rex, Slinky Dog, and Ham.

A favorite feline of many little girls is the white Hello Kitty cat. This character, while more of a trademark than a cartoon, is a very popular and classic theme for backpacks. Shoppers can choose from a traditional pink and white backpack or another favorite, the retro look. One can even find backpacks with accessories such as this one sold by J.C Penney which comes with a wrist watch and hair clips.
Ever since Lightning McQueen raced onto the big screen Cars products have been a top choice for young fans. Backpacks are no exception. While the movie is not new, these movie inspired school items are still very popular. I like how the front pocket on this one is in the shape of a racing tire. This backpack from the Disney Store can be personalized. Kohl’s offers this very boyish design.
The ultimate classic cartoon character that is as popular now as when he spun his first web in the Marvel comic books, is Spider Man. He still boasts an extensive product line which includes a good assortment of – you guessed it – backpacks. What child wouldn’t want a backpack with a huge spider web on the front and sides? My favorite which displays Spidey in action comes from the Disney Store. This clear one features Spiderman in a web.
