Television theme songs have come along way. That being said television soundtracks are appearing more and more often. Chances are if you catch a television show, the song may even stick in your head for the rest of the day or you may find yourself humming the song the day of the show in anticipation of your treat later that evening. While everyone’s favorite theme song will skew toward their viewing habits, many of the great television theme songs are fairly recognizable, even by people not familiar with the show. So here is my list of the top 8 best TV theme songs currently out there:
#8 The Best Of Both Worlds, Hannah Montana
As Hannah Montana can agree having “The Best Of Both Worlds” performed by Miley Cyrus describes the show better than any written description ever can. Every parent with a tween-aged girl likely can recite the words right now. The only problem is, it’s a cool song that actually sends a great message.
#7 Theme From SpongeBob SquarePants
Quick ask anyone around you “Who lives in a pineapple under the sea?” Bet you anyone in the vicinity can answer with a resounding “SPONGEBOB SQUAREPANTS”, the odds are increased by a factor of twenty if there is someone under the age of ten nearby. The song is fun and whimsical, and really the lyrics stay with you. They have been in my head for ten years, TEN YEARS. (authors note to self: figure out whether to laugh or cry about that.)
#6 Who Are You?, CSI
CSI cheats a little using a song that was popular for a few decades, but using The Who and “Who Are You” is just as cool as it gets. The song fit’s the show perfectly, and lets face it, this is a band that has been around for a long time.
#5 Everything Is Not What It Seems, Wizards Of Waverly Place
Now Selena Gomez is a very talented girl. Her performance of “Everything Is Not What It Seems” for the show “Wizards Of Waverly Place” is pretty good. The song is basic, catchy, and best of all short. Better yet, it delivers a cautionary message for everyone.
#4 The Survivor Theme, Survivor
When the conk shell sounds, the backstabbing and lying and cheating begins. The theme of “Survivor” is to outwit, outplay, and outlast, but we all know that it really rewards whomever lies the best with one million reasons to do it all over again. The song has a kind of global appeal to it, and just gets you ready for the adventure you are about to see.
#3 Bad Boys, Cops
Come on, everyone has peeked at “Cops”, and everyone knows the song. How well does it fit, extremely. Hey what are you gonna do? I know technically this is all reruns, but the song deserves a mention because it will stay with you for days at a time.
#2 It’s All About The Big Bang, The Big Bang Theory
Performed by The Barenaked Ladies, “It’s All About the Big Bang” begins every episode of The Big Bang Theory. The song is fast paced and well thought out with complex lyrics, just like the show. But the fun here is everyone in my house shouting “Bang” when the song ends, because that means Leonard, Sheldon, & Penny will be making us laugh out loud for thirty minutes.
#1 Save Me, Smallville
Smallville and Remy Zero May not be the most well known of television pairings. Take a few minutes and listen to the beginning of the show, and you have a well performed theme song that really fit’s the bill. Since I love the show, I gave the number one ranking, mainly because the theme song from Lost is about two note long.
