There are times when a movie franchise should just end. It is really unfortunate when Hollywood tries to squeeze out every penny of a series and ends up beating the life out of it. It feels like they are not even trying anymore once they reach the fourth film.
Top 5 Worst Movie Franchises
There has been a recent revival of ’90s films like Toy Story and Scream. TheFrisky reports that Emma Roberts and Hayden Panetierre are attached to Scream 4. Toy Story was well received and it will be interesting to see what comes of the horror movie series.
1. Scary Movie
Maybe David Zucker will reboot the Scary Movie franchise after Scream 4 hits theaters. The first film in the series had its funny moments, but that was probably because the Wayans brothers were involved with the film. The Scary Movie franchise instantly went from being corny to unbearable.
2. American Pie
Teens went wild for American Pie and the dirty high school comedy spawned two sequels. It was already pushing the envelope with American Pie Present: Band Camp, but then a bunch of direct to video spin-offs about Stifler’s brother and cousins surfaced. IMDB reports that the original cast members might reunite for another installment. Hopefully Chris Klein will be out of rehab and sobered up by then.
3. Bring It On
Hayden Panetierre is in this movie franchise too. Bring It On also a slew of direct to video flicks and none of the primary actors are in them. The series released its fifth installment in 2009 with Bring it On: Fight to the Finish. Actress Kirsten Dunst moved on from this over the top cheerleading movie to the Spider-Man franchise.
4. Indiana Jones
The first three Indiana Jones films were classics. Harrison Ford was smoking hot and the franchise was a marketing cash cow. Then Steven Spielberg delivered the highly anticipated Kingdom of the Crystal Skull in 2008. Fans were disappointed and so was Shia LaBeaouf. According to PopEater, he admitted to chatting with Harrison Ford about how bad the film was.
5. Saw
The first film grabbed viewers’ attention when Dr. Lawrence Gordon cut off his own foot with a saw. Jigsaw’s twisted traps and games were gruesome the first time around, but now it feels like the viewers are being put through psychological torture. This is possibly the worst movie franchise on the list and it has no plans of ending any time soon. A seventh Saw film is set to hit theaters in October.
