If you are in Bowling Green, Ohio, and looking for a good date-night location, a place to celebrate a special occasion, or even (in my case) a place to butter your girlfriend up for a wedding proposal, here are three restaurants to consider:
1. DiBenedetto’s: Formerly “Cucina di Betto,” this family-owned Italian eatery at 121 S. Main Street provides authentic, made-from-scratch Italian cuisine in a charming Tuscan atmosphere. The open kitchen and brick-laden bar of DiBenedetto’s Italian Bistro set the mood for an intimate dinner, with limited seating to reduce noisy crowds. The food will impress your palate, while the prices will not hurt your wallet. If you are in for dinner, be prepared to spend anywhere from $7.99 (pasta marinara) to $21.99 for a 12-ounce steak gorgonzola. Don’t forget to try a bottle of fine wine to augment the flavors of your meal.
2. Easystreet Café: If you are in the mood for something a little more casual, venture across the street. Easystreet Café, located at 104 S. Main Street, offers a large menu of sandwiches, burgers, dinners, and appetizers (including fried vegetables and pickles!) as well as a fully stocked bar. I have been on a couple of dates here, and each has been conducive to a laid-back feel and good conversation. I would suggest trying to sit in one of the booths near the back of the restaurant for extra privacy. Easystreet is moderately priced, with sandwiches starting around $7.99 and dinners ranging anywhere from $10.99-$21.99. You will want to check the board on the way in for the soup of the day and the outstanding specials, several of which are not just specially priced, but specially made only on that day of the week!
3. SamB’s: Located at 163 S. Main Street, SamB’s is my personal favorite “special occasion” restaurant. My fiancé knows this, and that’s why he took me there the night we got engaged! The atmosphere is just the right mixture between casual and fancy, while the service is top-notch and the food is remarkable. I always order the same thing – the pork chops and mashed potatoes, with my favorite homemade blue cheese dressing on the salad – but I have tasted other food during catered events, holiday buffets, and by “borrowing” from other people’s plates, and each dish is as delicious as the next. SamB’s is a bit more pricy, with dinners ranging from $12.99-$23.99, but there is also a wide variety of platters and salads for those with smaller appetites or tighter budgets. For an extra taste of romance, finish a bottle of wine, sign your names to it, and add it to their collection on the wall ledge!
There you have it! The next time your loved one asks for a romantic evening out in Bowling Green, Ohio, you will have a selection to offer!
