Top 10 World of Warcraft Addons

by itchy fish

Most people who are serious players of World of Warcraft have something called addons. Addons are modifications to the World of Warcraft game that you can download and customize for yourself. The top ten addons for World of Warcraft for me are mostly based on being a healer, but there are many that are good for learning your Professions and leveling. Here are my top 10 world of Warcraft Addons.

Best World of Warcraft Addon #1: Deadly Boss Mods
Many raiding guilds won’t even let you into a raid if you don’t have this addon. Deadly Boss Mods, or DBM, will give you information on bosses in dungeons and raids. For example, it will tell you to stop casting if you’re about to be silenced, and it will tell you to move if you’re standing in something that will kill you. It’s very helpful in that you will get tips from it that might otherwise cause the death of you or the rest of your raid.

Best World of Warcraft Addon #2: Questhelper & TomTom
Usually, these two addons will download together. Questhelper looks at your quest log, then calculates the most efficient route for you to take to do those quests. It tells you which monsters you need to kill, where on the map they are, and other similar things. This addon’s functionality was partially added to World of Warcraft itself in the last patch.

Best World of Warcraft Addon #3: Overachiever
If you’re a fan of the achievements in World of Warcraft, then Overachiever is for you! It times your timed achievements, puts icons next to recipes that you need to make for achievements. It will also tell you if you have or have not fished in specific nodes, or whether you need to eat or drink an item, also for achievements. It makes the Achievements frame draggable, too.

Best World of Warcraft Addon #4: FuBar (ExperienceFu, BagFu)
FuBar is an addon interface that allows you to download addons that fit into its module. It can change your bars to how you want them, to a point. My favorite addons for it are ExperienceFu and KillmeterFu, both of which track your experience, how many monsters you’ve killed, and how far you have to go until your next level, and BagFu, which simply tells you how many empty slots you have left in your bags.

Best World of Warcraft Addon #5: SellJunk
By far my most simple addon: when you speak to a merchant you can sell things to, a button will be on the window that wasn’t there before, and it says “Sell Junk.” If you use this button, it will automatically sell anything in your bag that is gray, which is completely unusable.

Best World of Warcraft Addon #6: Gearscore
This addon is controversial in World of Warcraft. It allows anyone to look at you and tell how good your gear is without ever running a dungeon with you. The good thing is you’ll know if you have someone in your raid who will bring the whole group down. The bad thing is that if your gearscore, or GS, is low, you might not be able to get into raids even if you’re really good.

Best World of Warcraft Addon #7: Everyquest & Lightheaded
These two addons are best when used together. Everyquest tracks what quests you’ve done in the game so far. Lightheaded is one of my favorite addons for World of Warcraft because it takes all the information on quests (including coordinates and comments from other players) from wowhead.com and makes it available in your Quest Log UI!

Best World of Warcraft Addon #8: Healbot
Healbot is the most important addon for any raid healer in World of Warcraft. It gives you a nice little UI that you program to cast whichever spell you want when you click a certain way on it. For example, left click, right click, shift left click, or the mouse wheel even, will all cast different spells. This will make you a faster healer and help you keep track of your party members better that the vanilla World of Warcraft user interface does.

Best World of Warcraft Addon #9: AggroNotifier
Another simple addon, AggroNotifier tells you if you have aggro from a monster, or if you’ve lost it. Both are excellent for any player, since for a DPS you’ll know to slow your damage, for a healer you can tell the tank you’ve got aggro, and for the tank, you’ll know if someone else in your party pulls something off of you.

Best World of Warcraft Addon #10: Atlas
Atlas has maps of all the dungeons and raids in the game and the important points of interest and bosses in each one. If you don’t know why that’s awesome, then why did you read this far??

Happy raiding! All these addons are available via Curse.com.
