Rainy days are a fact of life. Rain, snow and cold wind are the kinds of weather that drive our busy lives indoors leaving us wondering what to do with ourselves. Many times, it results in watching a movie – but what to watch?
Harry Potter – If you’re a fan, these movies never get old. Their magical story lines and lovable hero will easily take your mind off of the crummy weather outside. And right now, there’s six of them, so it’s perfect for a marathon.
Spiderman – Another marathon possibility, these movies are full of action and romance that will bring you out of the dumps.
Across the Universe – You don’t have to be a Beatles fan to enjoy this flick, but it helps. The plot ingeniously ties in the Beatles’ top songs set to the era in which they were written; highlighting the lives of Vietnam war protestors.
The Bucket List – Morgan Freeman and Jack Nicholson make a uniquely odd and hilarious couple of friends that decide to enjoy the ends of their lives to the fullest instead of passing them away in a hospital room.
National Treasure – Yes, it sounds cheesy, but these movies make learning fun. Treasure hunters follow clue after clue left by the men that founded our country and are led into some pretty interesting and dangerous situations – they even steal the actual Declaration of Independence.
Music and Lyrics – It’s a typical chick flick with a happy ending starring Hugh Grant and Drew Barrymore, but sometimes that’s just what you need to lift your spirits on a gloomy day.
Little Miss Sunshine – A successful movie that came out of 2006’s Sundance Film Festival, this movie is full of the awkward yet hilarious moments typical of an indie film. The story of little Olive Hoover competing in a beauty competition is a unique take on the conventional underdog tale.
Catch Me If You Can – Based on the true story of Frank Abagnale Jr., the movie stars Leonardo DiCaprio as young Abagnale and Tom Hanks as Carl Hanratty, Abagnale’s FBI pursuer – the actions and turns this movie takes will have you at the edge of your seat.
Shrek – It’s a kid’s movie, but Shrek is hilarious even to adults. It’s a twist on the world of fairytales that the whole world has grown to love.
Sherlock Holmes – This movie is adapted from the classic work of literature by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle. Robert Downey Jr. and Jude Law star as Holmes and his sidekick Doc Watson. Supernatural elements come into play, and for awhile it almost seems like good (Holmes) will not be able to prevail against the evil forces at work.
