The top 10 horror film villains leave moviegoers shaken up for days. Their motives, brutal killings and death tolls are frightening. These are the most horrifying and memorable villains that horror fans can appreciate.
1. Norman Bates
Norman Bates was emotionally abused by his mother and preserved her corpse in their family motel. Anthony Perkins looks like a squeaky clean young man in Alfred Hitchcock’s Psycho, but is a murderous villain who stabs women while dressed in his mother’s clothing.
2. Freddy Krueger
Freddy Krueger is one of the most notable horror film villains. Robert Englund did an amazing job in Wes Craven’s A Nightmare on Elm Street slasher series. Krueger’s signature striped sweater, clawed glove and dream killings made viewers not want to fall sleep. TMZ readers preferred Englund’s performance over the 2010 remake starring Jackie Earle Haley as Freddy Krueger.
3. Jason Voorhees
The hockey mask wearing Jason has hacked up one too many sexually active teens in the Friday the 13thfranchise. He is also one of the most indestructible horror film villains. This horror franchise consists of 12 films and many actors portrayed Jason Voorhees.
4. Michael Myers
While Freddy Krueger was known for cracking jokes, Michael Myers was the silent type who killed anyone who got in his way. His creepy mask in John Carpenter’s Halloween was made out of a spray painted Captain Kirk mask according to Entertainment Weekly.
5. Hannibal Lecter
Anthony Hopkins is brilliant as the manipulative Dr. Hannibal Lecter in The Silence of the Lambs. This psychiatrist turned cannibal serial killer role won Hopkins an Oscar.
Pinhead from the Hellraiser series is pretty rough to look at. Doug Bradley’s “Cenobite” leader is also accompanied by other minions from hell and rips people apart with chains and hooks.
Jigsaw is a dying old man who tortures people by putting them through deadly traps. He doesn’t actually kill them with his own two hands, but just sits back and watches the show. That makes the killer from the Saw franchise even creepier.
8. Jack Torrance
Who can forget Jack Nicholson’s eerie grin in Stanley Kubrick’s The Shining? Jack Torrance’s psychotic grin and iconic “Here’s Johnny!” line taken from Johnny Carson was placed on AFI’s 100 Best Movie Quotes list.
The monstrous Leatherface from the Texas Chainsaw Massacre series is mentally challenged and kills people for his family. He may act like a child, but he sports a mask made out of skin.
Chucky is only a doll, but he is a doll possessed by a serial killer’s soul. Child’s Play showed moviegoers that dolls can be evil and deadly.
