If you want to see some of the best upcoming movies of September 2010, good luck catching them all, because there are plenty of great movies coming out during the month. I’ve tried to pick a good mix of ten of the best upcoming movies of September 2010 for this list, throwing in some action, animation, indie, and comedy films, so there’s sure to be something good for every movie fan to enjoy during a big month for movies:
Best Upcoming Movies of September 2010: Movies Released September 3, 2010
Machete – I’ll start with what is definitely one of the most anticipated upcoming movies of September, as director Robert Rodriguez attempts to deliver an immediate cult classic full of action stars, guns, and revenge. Straight from the fake ‘Planet Terror’ trailer, the movie is about a double-crossed ex-Federale getting his brutal revenge on those that wronged him. The stellar cast includes Danny Trejo, Robert De Niro, and Steven Segal, with prettier players Jessica Alba, Michelle Rodriguez, and, of course, Lindsay Lohan offering up a little eye candy to go with all the action. After a summer lacking in rated R thrills, this is definitely one of the best upcoming movies of September 2010 for those looking for some heart-hammering action full of guns and gore.
Best Upcoming Movies of September 2010: Movies Released September 10, 2010
I’m Still Here – Okay, I’m really doubting that audiences will leave the theaters saying that one of the many upcoming movies of September 2010 in limited release is one of the best they’ve seen, but curiosity on this one could help it make a killing at the box office (well, a killing by indie film standards). So will watching Joaquin Phoenix go all wacko and try to rap be worth watching? It’s hard to tell until we shell out the bucks for a ticket and watch him unravel as bud Casey Affleck documents his bizarre behavior.
Resident Evil: Afterlife – Here’s one movie that hopes 3D isn’t dead, as ass-kicking Alice dons another hot leather outfit and decimates the living dead. No chance you’ll see this one come Oscar season, but it’s pure entertainment value makes it worth shelling out the extra bucks to view the carnage in 3D.
Best Upcoming Movies of September 2010: Movies Released September 17, 2010
Never Let Me Go – This is another of the upcoming movies of September, 2010 in limited release (it actually opens September 15th), but I think this one should have been more widely distributed. I don’t want to give away too much about the novel on which it is based, but it’s already worth catching for a cast that includes Keira Knightley and Carey Mulligan as residents at a boarding school for some very special students. Out of all the best upcoming movies of September on this list, this one definitely ranks up at the top, and it’s probably the one here I’m most looking forward to personally.
Easy A – If comedies are more your thing, then don’t miss one of the best upcoming movies of September 2010 infused with a little teen humor. This one takes a page from ‘Clueless’ and turns a classic novel (in this case ‘The Scarlet Letter’) into a teen comedy. The storyline is changed up quite a bit, with a high school nobody inexplicably played by the stunning Emma Stone accepting payment for pretending to have sex with the gay guys and virgin geeks at her school. The trailer is quite humorous, and it’s nice to see a girl own a high school comedy again (you gotta love the way she works that scarlet “A”).
The Town – This is another of the best upcoming movies of September 2010 with an impressive trailer. Ben Affleck stars as a bank thief that falls for one of his old hostages, so we get to see his character try to cope with his feelings for someone he put through hell while planning his next heist. It’s a pretty cool premise, so if you like thrillers and crime dramas, don’t miss Ben and his amazing cast of costars, which include Blake Lively, Jon Hamm, Jeremy Renner, and Rebecca Hall, in what could be one of the award-worthy movies coming out during this very busy month.
Jack Goes Boating – Keeping this September weekend a big one for award-worthy movies, here’s another of the upcoming films in limited release that looks like it will be worth seeking out if it doesn’t make it to your local theater. Phillip Seymour Hoffman is always a treat, and he’s actually directing this subtle romantic comedy that looks like an in-depth character study of two very different couples.
Catfish – Okay, I know this list is loaded with upcoming movies that are in limited release (and many that come out on the same weekend), but it sounds to me like this curiosity just can’t be missed. It’s a mockumentary that seems as if it has more to say about social networking than ‘The Social Network’, and I’d advise not to read too much about it. But if you’re looking for something different when it comes to the upcoming movies of September 2010, you might want to catch ‘Catfish’.
Best Upcoming Movies of September 2010: Movies Released September 24, 2010
Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps – I thought the original ‘Wall Street’ was just “meh”, but I’m still interested to see how the sequel plays out, and I’m betting performances from the likes of Michael Douglas, Shia LeBeouf, and Carey Mulligan as Gordon Gekko’s daughter will get plenty of buzz around award season. So get on Netflix and check out the original to remind yourself why greed is good before you watch another of the upcoming movies of September 2010 that got greedy with its cast.
Legend of the Guardians: The Owls of Ga’Hoole – When it comes to the upcoming animated movies of September 2010, you’ve only got two choices, and this one seems more intriguing to me than ‘Alhpa and Omega’. So will an adventure full of talking owls wow the young Harry Potter crowd? It’s hard to say, but the animation here is definitely very well-executed, so it should at least be a pretty picture to watch.
So from animation and action to comedies and crime, looks like we all better start saving up for the many amazing upcoming movies hitting theaters this September.
