Top 10 Best Upcoming Movies of June 2010

by itchy fish

Looking for the best upcoming movies of June 2010? Summer movie season is finally here, and movie theaters are offering up plenty of refreshing films to help movie fans beat the summer heat. From supernatural romances involving mermaids and vampires to crass comedies and action-filled flicks for adrenaline junkies, the best upcoming summer movies of June, 2010 offer a little something for everyone who wants to escape the hot summer sun:

Get Him to the Greek – Russell Brand is a brand of his own, and one of the most hated Brits in America for snagging Katy Perry. However, I can’t help but like the crass comedian. Plus when it comes to the best funny rated R movies hitting theaters this summer, this wild ride looks like it has the best chance at being ‘The Hangover’ of 2010. In the film, Russell Brand reprises his ‘Forgetting Sarah Marshall’ role as rocker Aldous Snow, and Jonah Hill plays an intern whose job is to make sure he gets him to the Greek Theatre in L.A. for a show. Of course Aldous Snow has ideas of his own, as he’s easily distracted by drugs, parties, and beautiful women. The storyline is reminiscent of ‘My Favorite Year’, but it’s fairly obvious that the movie is going to be quite a bit crazier than that zany classic (favorite moment from the trailer: Russell Brand’s Pope hat). Check it out on June 4, 2010.

Ondine – This is one of the many upcoming summer movies of 2010 in limited release that I’m looking forward to. It’s a dark fairytale for us girls that grew up with ‘The Little Mermaid’, as a troubled fisherman played by Colin Farrell fishes a lovely lady (played by his real-life leading lady Alicja Bachleda) out of the sea. Of course he falls in love with the mysterious woman he calls “Ondine”, who may or may not be a mermaid (actually a “selkie,” which is similar to a mermaid), an idea his young daughter is absolutely enchanted with. However, when her dark past comes back to haunt her, will their fairytale end not-so-happily ever after? If you’re looking for something a little different than your usual summer blockbuster, then this might be one of the upcoming movies of June worth checking out if you’re lucky enough to get it in a theater near you on June 4, 2010.

Splice – This is one of the best upcoming summer movies of 2010 for those that are fans of the horror genre, a rated R sci-fi flick about what happens when two genetic engineers do something taboo: combine human and animal DNA. The result is a bizarrely beautiful hybrid named Dren, a super-intelligent creature that grows and develops rapidly, morphing from an awe-inspiring scientific achievement into her creators’ worst nightmare. I love the pairing of Sarah Polley and Adrien Brody as the genetic engineers here, but it is, of course, Dren that steals the show with her alien looks and agility (plus there’s a twist ending that might have jaws dropping). So for those that like a little suspense, this is one of the upcoming summer movies of 2010 that might have you covering your eyes and screaming in surprise when it hits theaters on June 4, 2010 in limited release.

The A-Team – While it’s hard to imagine ‘The A-Team’ without Mr. T, this looks like it could be one of the better movie adaptations of a classic TV series. The storyline has been modernized a bit (the A-Team members are former Special Forces soldiers that took part in the Iraqi war instead of Vietnam vets), and the cast includes some of everyone’s favorite modern movie stars, including Liam Neeson, Bradley Cooper, and Jessica Biel, to offer some much-needed feminine flair to the film. However, she’s not a part of the A-Team foursome who are trying to clear their names with the U.S. military for a crime they did not commit through any means necessary; instead, she’s pursuing the team. If you like your action movies with a little humor and lots of explosions, then this is one of the best upcoming movies of the summer for you to check out. ‘The A-Team’ will be bringing their A game on June 11, 2010.

Cyrus – Here’s another of the funny upcoming summer movies of 2010 that’s rated R and stars Jonah Hill, although the humor here looks a little less raucous than that in ‘Get Him to the Greek’. Here Hill plays the adult son of Marisa Tomei’s character, who is being pursued by a somewhat troubled guy (John C. Reilly). Her new suitor soon finds that her relationship with her son is a somewhat abnormal one, and he and the manboy ultimately end up butting heads and competing for her affections. The plot sounds a little thin to me, but with a cast like this, ‘Cyrus’ is one of the upcoming summer movies that I won’t want to miss when it hits theaters on June 18, 2010 in limited release.

Toy Story 3 – And here’s one of the upcoming movies of June, 2010 that the whole family can have fun watching together. Thanks to their accidentally ending up in a daycare center, Woody and the gang get introduced to a whole new group of toys, including a fabulous Ken doll that finally meets the girl he was made for. But even though Andy is a college kid now, he still cares for his missing toys, and they ultimately decide they have to find a way to get back to him. So will the third in the series be just as magical as the rest? With new characters and new enemies (including drooling, destructive babies), it looks like this is one of the upcoming summer movies that audiences of all ages will fall in love with. Leave the house awhile so your own toys can come to life when this fun film hits theaters on June 19, 2010.

Jonah Hex – This is one of the upcoming summer movies that is getting the most buzz with fanboys, as the scarred bounty hunter of comic book fame introduces us to an alternate version of the old West. Josh Brolin plays Jonah Hex, a bounty hunter with a scar on his face that freaks me out so much I might have a hard time watching the film. He’s offered the opportunity to be a free man with no bounty on his own head in exchange for bringing down the man that scarred him for life, Quentin Turnbull (John Malkovich), a Civil War-era terrorist hell-bent on unleashing hell on earth. Somehow the only person Hex emotionally connects with is a prostitute portrayed by Megan Fox, who actually seems to be in her tightly-corseted element here. If you’re looking for something different, then this might be one of the best upcoming June movies for you to check out, as it combines supernatural elements with a traditional Western revenge flick. The trailer doesn’t make it look too tempting, but it might be worth giving the gunslinger a shot on June 18, 2010.

The Killer Inside Me – This is yet another of the upcoming June movies of 2010 that’s only in limited release, but this pulp noir flick set in a small Texas town during the 1950’s might be worth seeing if it comes to a theater near you. It’s a dark drama about a sheriff (Casey Affleck) with a sociopathic dark side and the consequences of his “sickness”. And if you think the film seems boring, Jessica Alba plays a pretty prostitute in it, while Kate Hudson sexes it up quite a bit herself as the sheriff’s girlfriend. So if you want to see something a little more serious this summer, this dark flick that seems like it may showcase some very solid acting performances might be one of the best upcoming movies for you to check out on June 18, 2010.

Grown Ups – Here’s one of the best upcoming summer movies for those that are young at heart. Comedians Adam Sandler, Chris Rock, Kevin James, David Spade, and Rob Schneider team up as a group of former high school buddies that reunite years later for a 4th of July weekend together. The guys enjoy meeting each other’s new families, which include Salma Hayek playing Adam Sandler’s wife (can you tell he wrote the script?), a real cougar as Rob Schneider’s soul mate, and a kid that just won’t grow up (cue breastfeeding joke). So has the director of ‘I Now Pronounce You Chuck and Larry’ grown up just a little bit? With a peeing in the pool joke in the trailer, I highly doubt it. Still, it is one of the upcoming summer movies with an impressive cast, and it might have you feeling like a kid again on June 25, 2010.

The Twilight Saga: Eclipse – Well, what can I say about one of the most anticipated upcoming summer movies? I don’t need to convince ‘Twilight’ fans to go see it, and they already know that the next part of the saga will be about Bella’s choice between Edward and Jacob and the villainous vampire Victoria’s quest for revenge. While there are plenty of longing glances and angsty embraces, it looks like there might be a little more action in this one, so guys might not mind accompanying their date to at least one of the trips she takes to the theater to see it this summer. Just be forewarned: as one of the most anticipated upcoming movies of the summer, tickets will likely sell out faster than vampires can fly up trees on June 30, 2010.

So whether you’re looking for drama, romance, horror, action, or family-friendly fun, there are upcoming summer movies of June here for everyone.
