One lotto that no one likes to win is being randomly selected for jury duty. For most, it is a huge inconvenience. It could range anywhere from one day of going down to the court house and waiting to see if you are a final member of the jury, to weeks or even months. If you are called for more than three days, most of the time you will not get paid the full time for being out of work. Many people try some really crazy things to get out of attending jury duty, here are a few legal and easy ways to get around doing your duty.
The first time I was called to jury duty I was in College. It is very simple to just call the number on the letter you received in the mail and explain to them you are a full time student and unable to get out of class to attend jury duty. Quick and easy, problem solved.
I was called a second time but this time I was no longer a college student. Not sure of how to get around jury duty I read that if you care for someone else and are their dependent, you don’t have to serve your time on the jury. Again I called the number they provide on the information and explained to them that I take care of my sister and she lives in my household. They asked a few questions such as her age, and grade she was in and again I was completely left off the hook of duty.
The third way to dodge jury duty is to prove that you would lose money by having to attend. In most cases this should be fairly easy to do since jury duty doesn’t pay much, they pay fifty dollars per day but only after you have served five consecutive days. This is very unlikely to serve this long, so if it is only four days you could lose four days of pay which would qualify for, loss of money from having to attend.
The final option I recommend is explaining to them you don’t have reliable transportation to get, to and from jury duty. This could get tricky because you do have to prove that no public transportation is possible for you as well. So make sure you do your homework before trying to use this excuse.
All of these are just some ways you can postpone jury duty, remember each state may have a few different rules or ways to sneak out of jury duty. Also keep in mind though these all won’t save you forever, your name could pop up again for duty and in some cases they may only postpone your time of when you can attend jury duty. Sometimes you just have to bite the bullet and go in for your duty.
