Most people cannot stand the sight of vomit, and especially the sight of other people’s vomit which can make vomit stains particularly unappealing for treatment. However, much of the gross aspect of the vomit stain removal process can be eliminated in short order and just leave the person on laundry duty with a few short tasks to perform in order to remove the remnants of a bad digestive experience.
Vomit Stain Removal – Get It Off the Clothing
Minus the severely inebriated or incapacitated, it goes without saying that a person who has just soiled there clothing with vomit will be removing the clothing immediately. When it is removed, it is time for a helper to step in and take the article of clothing and rinse it clean to eradicate any excess vomit from the clothing. When this is done immediately the larger part of the mess will disappear down the drain and leave the discoloration behind.
Vomit Stain Removal – Pre-Treating the Clothes
To remove a vomit stain after rinsing the clothing clean with cold water, it is time to pretreat the clothing with a detergent formulated with enzymes. The enzymes will help lift the stain from the shirt or pants and will also be particularly helpful if the stain set for any length of time before being tackled. Apply the detergent and scrub lightly, rinse it clean, and repeat if necessary.
Vomit Stain Removal – Stain Fighters
You can use an enzyme cleaner or your favorite stain removal spray, gel, stick, or powder to tackle the deepest portions of the stain. In many cases detergent will be sufficient for lifting vomit, but it is always better to be safe considering the mixed bag of vomit composition. Thoroughly soak your garment with your stain fighting product or enzyme cleaner and then scrub lightly and let it sit as indicated on the product packaging. Rinse it clean.
Vomit Stain Removal – The Wash
If you are washing the vomit stained clothing alone, then consider reapplying your stain removing product and letting the garment wash with both this and a detergent. When you set your washing machine water temperature, toggle it to the highest possible heat level for the water based on the specifications for your item of clothing. When the garment is done washing, inspect it for any remnants of the stain. If there are traces remaining you can repeat the pre-treatment process and try again before drying which can permanently lock in a stain. If necessary let the garment air dry.
Vomit stains are not difficult to remove from clothing, only distasteful for most people.
