Wavy hair snugly fits into the gap left between the extremely straight style many people with fine hair possess and the tight curls of people with luscious manes of hair. Much like the latter hair type, wavy hair is highly prone to frizzing and requires some special attention to prevent the frizz from taking over the hair on any given day.
Prevent Frizz with Wavy Hair by Moisturizing
Wavy hair can be somewhat coarse which leaves it in need of consistent conditioning. I condition my wavy hair every time I wash it to keep the length of my waves healthy. If you shower, then wash your hair immediately upon entering the shower and follow up with a generous amount of conditioner on the length of the hair. Let the conditioner soak in fully while you lather up with soap and body wash in the shower or while you shave for the best results.
Prevent Frizz in Wavy Hair with Leave in Conditioner and Deep Conditioning
Leave-in conditioners can be applied in the shower and after the shower depending on the product you purchase. These products are ideal for those most prone to heavy frizzing even on days with little to no humidity. Those who deal with frizz on a daily basis should also utilize a deep conditioner once a week at a minimum.
Prevent Frizz in Wavy Hair with Dry Shampoo
While this tip does not work well in the winter because of higher instances of static induced frizz and flatness, it does work well in the warmer months. Every other time I wash my hair, I will extend my hair wash cycle an extra day and utilize dry shampoo on this third day. After it is brushed through the hair, the dry shampoo is no longer visible, the hair has the appearance of being freshly washed, and frizz is a non-issue providing the hair is not over-brushed. The extra day of not shampooing always seems to make my hair happier to be washed and more responsive to my styling products.
Prevent Frizz in Wavy Hair by Avoiding Heat
Heat styling is a great way to add dimension to many hair styles, but it also a good way to add frizz to otherwise healthy hair. When you must use a hair dryer, use a lower heat setting even it means adding minutes to your hair drying time. When you use other styling tools look for products like ceramic flat irons which are clearly labeled as helping to keep hair soft and shiny while preventing frizz.
Hair care options have come a long way in recent years and new tools made out of traditional materials afford methods of frizz protection to the consumer with wavy hair.
