Tips for Eco-Friendly Lunches for Elementary School Students

by itchy fish

Parents strive to keep their kids in tip top health and to teach their children to make healthy choices, as well. When packing lunches for your kids to school, it is important to remember to make sure your children’s lunches are as healthy as possible. This also goes hand in hand with making sure your elementary school children’s lunches are eco-friendly, too. Eco-friendly, healthy lunches are a great way to start teaching your kids how to eat healthy and eat foods that aren’t bad for the environment either. Use these tips to create eco-friendly lunches for your elementary school students:

Give your child a reusable lunch bag.

A reusable lunch bag is much better for the environment than brown paper bag, a plastic bag, or other disposable lunch sack. A reusable lunch bag is much more eco-friendly since it saves on waste and can be reused hopefully for years to come. With your elementary school student, pick out an eco-friendly lunch bag such as one that is made from organic hemp and cotton, sustainable bamboo, or recycled materials. You can also find many eco-friendly stainless steel lunch boxes on the market, as well.

Pack reusable utensils for your elementary school students.

Reusable utensils are a much greener alternative than disposable plastic utensils, and they’ll prove to be more budget friendly in the long run, too. There are a number of alternatives to reusable utensils that you can pack in your children’s eco-friendly lunch bags, including stainless steel utensils, bamboo utensils, and reusable, recycled plastic utensils. Many of the utensils also are available in kid-friendly sizes perfect for elementary school students.

Give your children organic foods.

With the popularity of organic living, there are plenty more organic food products on the market than there were in years past. Although some organic foods may be a little pricier, the health advantage of organic is undeniable for people of any age. So, make sure your children’s lunch boxes are filled with eco-friendly organic foods, such as fresh fruits, vegetables, nuts, and grains.

Try to make your elementary school student’s lunch as garbage-free as possible.

To make your children’s lunch garbage-free, and even more eco-friendly, try to abstain from using disposable plastic bags and mini snack packs for your students. Instead, use reusable containers made out of non-toxic, eco-friendly materials. Don’t forget about your child’s drink, too. Pack their drink in a reusable container such as an eco-friendly glass or stainless steel bottle.

Keep all of these tips in mind, and your elementary school students will be surely be living a healthier, eco-friendly lifestyle in no time!
