Tiger Woods is attempting to resurrect his golf career in the wake of the biggest, widely reported celebrity sex scandal in memory. Tiger has accepted responsibility for his despicable behavior which may have irreparably damaged his endorsement portfolio and marriage, and left his carefully crafted public persona in tatters. Tiger Woods is trying to regain control of his life and move on. But it is not going to happen, because his former mistresses, Rachel Uchitel, Jamie Grubbs, and others refuse to go away.
Once upon a time in America, getting caught sleeping with a married man was a cause for embarrassment and scorn. No more. In 2010, having an illicit affair with a married man, particularly a wealthy celebrity such as Tiger Woods or Jesse James, takes shame and turns it into fame.
Slim Pickens once famously asked in Blazing Saddles: “What in the wide, wide, world of sports is going here?”
Rachel Uchitel & Reality Television
Rachel Uchitel was virtually unknown the New York nightclub “hostess” and hanger-on until her dalliance with Tiger Woods set off a media feeding frenzy. In another era, Ms. Uchitel would be incommunicado; an out-of-sight homewrecker and social pariah. Instead, she reportedly received a hush money payoff of some $10 million from Tiger Woods, and is contacting television executives to pitch a proposed reality show about her search for love.
Rumors were also circulating that Ms. Uchitel was vying for a spot on Dancing With The Stars. Here is an idea, why not just develop a new show called “Dancing with People Who Slept with the Stars”? Tiger Woods former mistresses could make up the entire inaugural season cast!
It would be no surprise if Ms. Uchitel is successful in her quest for continued fame. Reality TV is an entertainment wasteland that currently features a show glorifying teenage pregnancy (16 and Pregnant).
Please Rachel, go back to Manhattan and crawl under your slimy rock.
Interviews and Magazine Spreads
Several of Woods’ former mistresses, including Jamie Grubbs (the former Las Vegas cocktail waitress who once appeared on the reality television train wreck dating show Tool Academy with a former reprobate boyfriend) have been interviewed on national talk shows, for which they were no doubt handsomely compensated.
Now Grubbs, waitress Mindy Lawton, and Woods’ mistresses foist their seedy selves upon us as they are featured in provocative poses in a recent Vanity Fair Magazine photo spread. The magazine will surely pull huge sales numbers, which says something about our deteriorating societal values.
Women who should be humiliated by their amoral behavior are instead seeking publicity and attention and getting earning large sums of money in the process.
There are thousands of people in this world who toil in anonymity for worthy causes. They go to work. They raise families. They are faithful to their spouses and partners. And nobody hears about them.
Why do we continue to glorify and reward the bad behavior of people like Tiger Woods former mistresses?
