The biggest problems with this year’s Tiger Woods PGA Tour 11 golf game is Tiger himself. Not exactly burning up the courses this season as he recovers his ego from lighting off a nuclear explosion inside of his life, the game should just go back to the original PGA Tour golf title.
The second problem is EA (Electronic Arts) taking nickel-and-dimming to new levels of scum-bag greediness by forcing you to either buy the game or pay $10 to play it online with your friends! Not only is this financial discrimination, you don’t get any additional course packs or anything or real substance for your additional $10, just EA’s way of saying kiss our gigantic corporate butt you filthy budget minded renters and purchasers of used games.
Considering a growing number of people are on a budget these days while the entire world crawls out of a giant financial recession, EA thought it would really stick it us when money is tight.
Those two glaring, unacceptable problems make this game unplayable after a week.
The game itself is actually a pretty deep Tiger Woods experience this year. There are a lot of game modes including the very long career mode and there is a very fun Ryder Cup mode along with Online and Match play.
You can play the game in a number of different ways this year including Tru-Aim, where you pretty much just judge distance of the shot like you would in real golf, by looking. This Tru-Aid mode actually works pretty well if you’ve played golf before, I was surprised how intuitive it felt even though I was looking at a flat screen.
Now for the bad, the graphics are a downgrade from previous Tiger Woods titles, there are only 17 courses included, they have already put up a course to purchased on Xbox live, the new XP system used to upgrade your golfer and also used to buy new equipment and apparel is not a good idea. Don’t understand why the winnings you earn on the game aren’t used to purchase equipment or apparel, with this new XP system it will take you a very, very long time to be able to level up your character fully.
Overall I have to give Tiger Woods PGA Tour 11 a 3.85 / 5, you won’t be disappointed if you purchase this title, you’ll definitely get your money’s worth with all the modes of play – but I would recommend renting it, if only just to piss EA off.
4.25 – Graphics
4.75 – Sounds (Commentators are great in this one)
4.85 – Controls
2 – Multiplayer (Would have been a 4.75 if not for being bullied by EA)
4.5 – Replay Value (As long as you buy the game or online pass)
2.75 – Video Game Magic (Would have been a 4.75 if not for being bullied by EA)
*Video Game Magic is the video game’s ability to transport you the player into the game’s experience – usually the effects this has on the human condition are, severe loss of time management, extreme video game jonesing, and an extended altered state of reality.
