When done right, there is nothing better than a movie based on a good book. These are my picks for books that should be turned into movies.
On a Pale Horse; Piers Anthony:
On a Pale Horse was the first in the Incarnations of Immortality, by Piers Anthony. This awesome story about a regular guy, who finds himself becoming Tanatos, or the Incarnation of Death, would make an excellent movie. There is plenty of action, romance, and original story line to keep anyone interested, and wanting more. This is one of the most well written books I have ever read, and the rest of the books in this series are just as awesome. The characters are the best written of any books I have ever read. This series just begs to be made into a series of Hollywood blockbusters. With seven books in all, the producers would be busy for at least a decade. Other books in the series are about other Incarnations such as; Time, War, Nature, Fate, Satan, and God. This series knows no equal for readability, and I believe watch-ability.
A Spell for Chameleon; Piers Anthony:
Another excellent series of books written by Piers Anthony, The Xanth series is ripe for being made into movies. There are over thirty books in the series, and I have never been disappointed by any of them. The stories are rich and well written, and the general story line is very original. All of the stories take place in the magical land of Xanth, which is juxtaposed over the state of Florida. Almost every character in this series has a magical talent, and puns are real life creatures and items. There are a lot of magical creatures and half breeds to make any movie interesting; and like all of Anthony’s books, the characters are articulately written. A Spell for Chameleon would be the logical starting point being that it is the first in the series and since there are so many books in the series, any producer could spend a life time making multi-million dollar blockbusters out of these excellent books.
The Sword of Shanara; Terry Brooks:
All of Terry Brook’s books are amazingly real to the reader. The characters are well written, the stories are well thought out, and the imagery is beautiful and enchanting. The Sword of Shanara is the first in a series of wonderful fantasy books that I believe would make awesome films. In the spirit of The Lord of the Rings, these books are truly spell binding stories, and deserve to be entered into the film genre. The group of adventurers is varied and the bad guy is truly evil; the book even has a great ending, that doesn’t disappoint. Fantasy stories are very popular in films these days and this story, complete with elves, magic, and mystery would make an excellent addition to any fantasy movie collection, and of course, all of the books in the series could be block-busters.
Until these awesome books are made into movies, I would recommend finding them where you can and reading each and every-one.
