Thoughts from the Bald Spot

by itchyfish

This is the inaugural “issue” of the Bald Spot. And no, I do NOT have a bald spot. I just thought it was a clever title that may catch some attention. I hope to do an article weekly on things that are on my mind and comments on current events. And I hope you enjoy it and keep coming back.

First, I must give a belated congratulations (grudgingly) to the Los Angeles Lakers on their 16th NBA championship. As a lifelong Boston Celtic fan, it was a bitter pill to swallow (that’s why it took so long for me to acknowledge it!). The Celtics could have won game 7 if they had adjusted to the Laker’s defense in the 4th quarter. I imagine they will also spend a lot of time during the off season thinking about how they lost by allowing the Lakers to beat them with free throws. If you’re going to go down, at least make the other team earn it! Still, I am happy with the season Boston had. They fought through injuries in the regular season and beat the top two teams in the East to even get to the finals, when no one gave them a chance. And it is incredible that these two franchises combined have won 33 of the 64 NBA titles!

I had an interesting thing happen the other day in JC Penny’s. As I was checking out, a couple walked up and the man asked me if I thought his girlfriends’s hair looked good. Of course I said “yes” to which he said to her “See I told you it looked nice”. I wonder what would have happened if I said no? For one thing, I doubt I’d be healthy enough to write this article.

Why is mayonnaise often labeled as REAL Mayo? Is there such a thing as fake or fictional mayo?

Apparently geography is no longer being taught in Wisconsin. Peggy West (Democrat) said this at a Milwaukee county supervisors meeting about Arizona’s immigration law:

“If this was Texas, which is a state that is directly on the border with Mexico, and they were calling for a measure like this, saying that they have a major issue with, you know, with undocumented people flooding their borders, I would have to look twice at this, but this is a state that is a ways removed from the border.”

Say what?

Senator John Kyl of Arizona sent Peggy West the following reply in a letter:

“You will be interested to learn that Arizona does indeed share a border with Mexico. I
have enclosed a map for your convenience.

I hope you will take the time to actually read the Arizona law before formulating an
opinion about it and become familiar with our country’s geography and the challenges that our
border states face.”

It would also be nice if our President and Attorney General would actually read the Arizona Immigration Bill and learn the truth and stop saying things about the the bill that aren’t accurate. I read it in about 20 minutes (it’s only 16 pages!). See link below. Does that mean I am better informed than our government officials? (At this point I believe MOST of the citizens of this country are better informed than our government on MANY issues).

The Andy Griffith show celebrates it’s 50th anniversary this fall. I think CBS should air the first episode “The New Housekeeper” in prime time on the anniversary date (10/3/60). Would anyone else like to see that?

I just heard someone on NPR say that God is mysterious and unknowable. I strongly disagree with that. God has revealed himself to us through his Word – the Bible – and through his son Jesus Christ. There is no mystery about Him.

Hope everyone has a great week and stays cool!
