As a public service I am writing this review of the newly released movie on rental DVD “Enemies Among us.” Trust me, really trust me, you do not want to waste even a dollar at Red Box, as I did, and certainly not 70 minutes of your finite life watching this pathetic, mega-awful film. Amazingly it is available as an iPod download. You have been warned!! Even if you find a way to watch it for free Do Not Punish Yourself by viewing it. Amazon is selling the video for $27.49; they should be ashamed for offering this pathetic product.
It has absolutely no redeeming value whatsoever. As a self-proclaimed political thriller it offers no thrills, no suspense, and no sense at all. Not one sentence of the infantile, boring and useless dialogue, not one scene, not one special effect, not one of the cast of actors has any merit. The story sucks. The plot makes little sense. The characters make no sense. The physical settings are all cheap junk. I would guess that the cost of making the film was $100,000 or less. Or at least it looks that way.
There should be a class action legal suit against the producers and distributor by some angry attorney that might serve the valuable function of sending a clear message that no company should ever sell or rent such a terrible, junk movie.
Several fairly big name actors are used to sell the movie, including Billy Zane (whose picture is featured on the box and advertisements), Eric Roberts, Robin Givens and Steven Bauer, although Bauer is not listed in The Internet Movie Database as appearing in the movie, which suggests that he did some deal to avoid an official linkage with the film. Zane and Roberts hardly appear in this crappy flick but they and Givens will have to face their God eventually and rationalize why they made this film. Certainly the script could not possibly have been any better than the final product.
It should, at best, be used in university film departments as a fantastic example of everything that a screenwriter, director and producer should never, ever do.
In this case major blame and responsibility go to one person Dan Garcia who was the director, screenwriter and producer for this sham film. Apparently he has made a bunch of other films that, however, I never heard of. If you see his name associated with any other film Do Not Waste Your Time and Money on it.
The only good thing I can say is that I found a number of other brief reviews that also said this movie was the worst the people had ever seen. Anyone who says anything good about this movie must have a large brain tumor.
The film is rated R, but it should be rated something like Z. Rather than going straight to video it should have gone straight to an incinerator.
