The Taste of Tango is located in a busy part of downtown of Indianapolis, just south of Chase Tower. Coming into the restaurant, you automatically get the feeling of seclusion from the hectic street just outside your window. When we visited The Taste of Tango, we felt like we were the only people in the entire restaurant. It was so quiet that we started our conservations whispering. The restaurant has a very romantic feel to it due to the overall quietness and soft music playing in the background.
Our waitress was very friendly. She immediately met us at the door and took us straight to our seats. Right away, she asked us if we had ever been to her restaurant. After telling her this was our first time, she explained everything about the restaurant including its origin and what type of food they offer. This was unusual but nice to know. I feel like the waitress was trying hard to make us comfortable. More restaurants should do this, especially if it has a history.
The waitress began by bringing out bread with an oil-based dip. This was probably my favorite part of the meal. I don’t know what was in the dip, but it exceptional. The first thing we ordered was an appetizer that was similar to fried cheese. We cut the cheese and ate it with leftover bread. I ordered an entrée that tasted like the beef equivalent of chicken parmesan. My girlfriend ordered a ravioli type dish, and both were pretty tasty. My girlfriend and I are not of drinking age, but, from what I saw, The Taste of Tango has a fairly decent wine list. There was everything from affordable selections to a 2004 bottle that cost $120.00. Overall, the food was not bad and had everything you would expect from a steakhouse such as steak, seafood, fish, and chicken.
When it does come to price, I’m not going to argue. After using the Restaurant.com coupon, which was $25.00 off the total, our final bill after tip came to $34.00, a good deal for an anniversary dinner. If you do plan on going to this restaurant, I would recommend picking up the gift certificate. There are minimum requirements, but they are very easy to meet with a party of two. Without the gift card, the prices are a little unreasonable. I feel like I could’ve gotten the same food at a more casual restaurant.
Overall, this is great place to go if you are not planning to spend a whole lot of money for a moderately-priced date. Without the gift certificate, the restaurant is a little too expensive. Once you slap on the discount, however, the restaurant turns out to be pretty good value. The Taste of Tango gets an “A-” after you use the gift card. However, if you do not use the gift card, it is more like a “C+.”
