Celebrity weddings should be romantic affairs done tastefully with friends, family, and a wonderful venue. Everything should go perfectly. Unfortunately, some celebrities seem to have some strange ideas as to what makes a good wedding. Here are some of the weird weddings in the celebrity world.
Sara Jessica Parker and Matthew Broderick’s wedding was so secret because they didn’t want attention from the press that the bride and groom both bought their attire the day of the wedding and surprised close friends by inviting them to a “party.” Married at a synagogue in New York City, Broderick’s sister (an Episcopal priest) administered the vows as Sara Jessica Parker and Matthew Broderick both wore black according to Celebrity Bride Guide.
Fergie of the Black Eyed Peas married Josh Duhamel in January of 2009 in front of friends and family after a five year courtship. The wedding was elegant and well-attended in a traditional Catholic ceremony. The first words Fergie allegedly said after she became Mrs. Duhamel were “I’m married, bitches!” The wedding took place at the elegant Church Estate Vineyard in Malibu. Reports on CeleBuzz state that the wedding was more like a rock concert instead of a wedding ceremony.
Jennifer Lopez wasted no time once Marc Anthony was divorced from former Miss Universe Dayanara Torres. The divorce was official on a Monday and less than two weeks later Anthony and Lopez married in her Beverly Hills home. The ceremony was casual and under wraps until the week it happened according to People Magazine.
Rush Limbaugh’s fourth wedding happened in early June to Kate Rogers, a woman half his age. That’s not the tacky part. The conservative and often anti-gay radio show host paid Elton John a million dollars to sing at the wedding. Around 400 guests attended to see the openly gay singer croon the night away to just about every conservative and right wing personality in the United States in a report filed by People.
Mariah Carey married Sony Music executive Tommy Mottola in 1993 with an expensive wedding that totaled around a half million dollars. There were reportedly 50 flower girls and a dress that was much like Princess Diana’s according to Comcast. Their marriage was miserable and didn’t last long for such a lavish ceremony.
Jon and Kate Gosselin’s renewal of their wedding vows was as much a sham as Mariah Carey’s wedding. In August of 2008 the couple flew to Hawaii, on the bill of TLC and Discovery Networks of course, and had a beautiful ceremony with all of their kids in attendance. Less than a year later Jon and Kate divorced and the ratings for the show Jon and Kate Plus 8 topped out as TLC’s highest ratings ever. Too bad the marriage tanked despite the tropical paradise.
Carried Underwood and Mike Fisher got married in Georgia in July of 2010. The couple had a wedding fit for their personalities as Underwood’s rat terrier Ace walked down the aisle in a tuxedo and centerpieces at the reception were hockey pucks according to Popeater. At least both families were able to understand the uniqueness of the wedding even if in my mind having four legged attendees is a bit overboard. The headline did read “Carrie’s Dream Wedding” on People so as long as she’s happy that’s all that matters.
Michael Jackson married Lisa Marie Presley in secret in the Dominican Republic in complete secrecy. They even kept the marriage a secret for two months according to CNN. Presley and Jackson lasted under two years and they parted citing “irreconcilable differences.” After Jackson’s tragic death, Lisa Marie Presley revealed that they split after she tried desperately to get Jackson to stop being addicted to pain medication that spiraled into a vicious circle of drug addictions that eventually ended his life.
David Beckham got married to Posh Spice aka Victoria Adams in an Irish castle. The setting was great, food spectacular, and about $800,000 was spent on the occasion. The bride and groom sat in velvet thrones after the ceremony as the king and queen. Guests were told to wear black or white. Victoria was in a tight-fitting gown with a gold crown in a report on Forbes magazine’s website. Sheesh. We all know who rules the roost in that family and it’s not the soccer star.
Tori Spelling married Charlie Shanian on her father’s estate in California amidst many other celebrities including Ed McMahon and Jason Priestley. Everything went well for the wedding except it was a 1920s flapper-type fashions and a Great Gatsby theme. Like the book, perhaps the married couple had too much idle time on their hands as they split two years later in 2006 according to Forbes.
