I feel compelled to ramble regarding a few statements, events and recent discoveries that have come to pass in the recent weeks. I feel compelled because if I don’t say it, no one will ever know that I thought it and no one will ever hear it.
My first rant is regarding the BP Oil Spill and why it has not been capped besides the fact that no one really knows what the heck that they are doing. I believe that BP knows that there are other leaks in the pipe much further down and if they cap this thing the leak would surely be discovered and more hellfire shall rain down upon thee. If scientists wish and can get close enough to the televised gusher to measure the amount spewing, why could not someone get just as close to place and attach a top to corral the gusher? Make a cap which resembles the cap of an ink pen with thick rubber on the bottom of the cap. The thick rubber will only be large enough to fit over the spewing pipe but small enough to have to be forced down making a tight seal. Do we not still have those old navy diving suits which allowed people to walk on the bottom of the ocean?
Another rant is over the “using a nuclear weapon on an ant” controversy. Granted, maybe the President should not have elevated the House Minority Leader by repeating his words at a Town Hall Meeting but it made me began to wonder why that same leader suggested that the President concentrate on creating jobs when he did not vote for the jobs bill that passed in the House or his counterparts in the Senate is blocking theirs. He seemed so concerned now over the deficit, so concerned that all of those of his party voted against extending unemployment benefits. If he and his fellow Republicans are so willing to sacrifice those Americans who can not find a job because employers are looking for those who are employed already, why was not this a priority when they were in control of all three branches of the government just a few short years ago?
Finally, Mr. Ben Nelson of Nebraska maybe the only remaining Democrat in Name Only (DINO) left in existence. Why are there not cameras stationed outside of his office with questions of why he stands in opposition of unemployment extensions? Would it be because he did not get his “Cornhusker Kickback” in the Healthcare Debate? Where was he when congress was voting on two unfunded wars and tax breaks for the wealthy? Did he replace Lieberman on the Republican’s Buddy Roster or did the switch by Arlen Specter make him realize that maybe he was wearing the wrong uniform?
Either way, the complete silence of the public makes us complicit in this farce as well. The only voices you hear are those emitting from the Tea Party and unless I missed my guess, they do not speak for the majority of Americans. Hey Harry Reid, a mission for you. If you ever wonder why the public sent so many Democrats to Washington, it was to make the hard choices and fix the problems that we face. It was to make our lives and government better. It was to ignore lobbyist and pay attention to the people. It was to get things done. If you are having a problem doing that because of Senate Rules, then change them. If I had my way, no governing body would ever have the authority to make rules to govern themselves. That’s like MMS allowing the oil companies to fill out their own inspection sheets. The Senate Minority Leader said that this President circumvented the public when he made a recess appointment. Whom did he and his party circumvent when they failed to help millions of Americans pay their bills and keep their homes when they refused to help pass unemployment benefits? Whom did he and his party circumvent when they decided to let Americans starve? Just a question, you don’t have to answer now but think about it and let me know please.
