To be completely honest, I had not given the search for bin Laden much thought in the past few months. It could have been all of the issues that we face here and the fact that I was personally attempting to survive this economic turndown. Still this country has not completely recovered and neither have I but the thought of capturing bin Laden did cross my mind recently. It began when I heard the news about an American being held in Pakistan who had been searching for him. I began to wonder what places I would search had I been the one looking to locate bin Laden.
“Gary Faulkner, 50, is being held in Pakistan after being stopped near the border with Afghanistan’s Nuristan province, Pakistani police announced Tuesday.” “He was carrying a pistol, a sword, night-vision equipment and Christian religious books, said Mumtaz Ahmed, a police chief in the area.” “He told police that he had been looking for bin Laden since al Qaeda’s September 11, 2001, attacks on New York and Washington and had traveled to the area several times before, Ahmed said.” “Faulkner said he had no intention of killing bin Laden, but because of the weapons he was carrying, police did not believe him, Ahmed said.” “Faulkner is a California-born independent contractor who has lived in Colorado since 1968, his brother said.” (Unknown Author, CNN, American Arrested Searching For Osama bin Laden, Retrieved from www.wibw.com ).
Osama bin Laden “also known as: Usama bin Laden, Ussamah bin Laden” is considered by the U.S. Government “to be the most dangerous terrorist in the world.” “Bin Laden joined the Afghanistani resistance in 1979 and became a commander in the guerilla wars against the Soviet Union in the 1980s.” “After that war ended, bin Laden founded a loose organization of pro-Islamic terrorists known as al-Qaeda (“the base”).” “He then joined with the Egyptian militants led by Ayman al-Zawahiri to form an international group whose goals included driving the United States out of the Middle East and overthrowing the government of Saudi Arabia.” “Osama bin Laden was one of 52 children fathered by Muhammad bin Laden, a Saudi Arabian construction magnate Attacks which bin Laden is believed to have plotted or inspired include the 1993 bombing of the World Trade Center, the 1995 truck bombing of a Saudi National Guard training center, and the 1998 explosions at U.S. embassies in Kenya and Tanzania.” “Along with captured suspect Khalid Sheikh Mohammed, he is considered responsible for the September 2001 attacks that crippled the Pentagon and destroyed New York’s World Trade Center.” (Unknown Author, Osama bin Laden Biography, Retrieved from www.who2.com).
There are several places I think I would start my search for bin Laden but only one person that I would definitely have to interview. The first place I think I would start is Saudi Arabia. Why Saudi Arabia? Mainly because that’s where he hail from and there may be several places where he could live comfortably instead of in some cave on the Afghan/Pakistan border. The second place is Egypt and that would be because he linked up with Ayman al-Zawahiri who led those militants. The only person that I would have to interview would be Afghanistan’s President Hamid Karzai youngest brother. Too much has been reported about him possibly being the number one drug lord in Kandahar and we all know he would have to get his drugs from somewhere. This means nothing really because I personally do not have the time or desire to hunt bin Laden nor do I consider it my duty. I am sure that there are more capable persons than I whose task it is to track him down.
