The Real Housewives of New York City Season 3: Bethenny Frankel and Jill Zarin Feud by AOkay12 is licensed under a Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial-NoDerivs 3.0 Unported License.
It is well known to fans of the Real Housewives of New York City, that there was a public feud between co-stars, Jill Zarin and Bethenny Frankel. The friendship officially came to an end during an episode, when another fellow housewife, Alex McCord delivered a message from Bethenny to Jill, that their friendship was over. The termination of the friendship is the culmination of feelings of brewing hostility between Jill Zarin and Bethenny Frankel since, earlier this season. Frankel left a voice message for Mrs. Zarin advising her to “get a hobby”. Also, Jill Zarin’s husband was ill and hospitalized and Zarin was apparently upset that Bethenny was not supportive of him.
These events appear to have changed the dynamics of the friendship. Jill told Bethenny in an argument over a phone call “You know what Bethenny, we are done?” Bethenny tried to reach out to Jill in order to reconcile, but Jill refused most of Bethenny’s good will attempts to reconcile. Although Jill initially and rashly ended the friendship, she later realized that she made a mistake. It was a little too late, because Bethenny realized that Jill is not worthy of her friendship.
Jill Zarin has been emotional and somewhat regretful over the ended friendship. On the other hand, as stated, by Alex on the season 3 reunion show, Jill is not sorry that the friendship ended, but rather she is sorry because of the huge backlash and the way that she is perceived by many of the viewers. From the footage that has aired, it seems that there is a grain of truth to what Alex says. Understandably, anyone who is constantly criticized in the media would be stressed out and shaken. Jill Zarin probably felt embarrassed and humiliated by the fact that Bethenny sent Alex to deliver “the message”. Each time the weight became too much to bear during the season 3 reunion show, Zarin began to cry and walk off the set. At the same time, Jill has not said anything which convinces that she is prepared to examine her flaws and change.
Jill Zarin’s apologies seem a bit insincere; Whenever Zarin is confronted about something that she does, that is offensive, she sometimes apologizes, but the apology comes across superficial. It’s as if Jill apologizes just to get herself out of the hot seat and to shut the confronter up. Then, she later returns to her offensive ways. Jill does not seem to really want to see the error of her ways or want to change.
There are some things that are disturbing about Jill’s personality. For one, her behavior isn’t consistent with the behavior of a loving and forgiving friend. Jill is a gossiper, seeking juicy tid bits of information to talk about. She did not seem truly happy about Bethenny Frankel’s engagement or her pregnancy. Jill saved a phone message that Bethenny left Jill in which , Bethenny told Jill to “Get a hobby”. To make matters worse, Jill played the message for another person to listen to. Jill also admitted to saving the message for months and listening to it almost everyday. Only a person who wants to be reminded to be angry would do something so weird.
Another thing that is troubling about Jill Zarin’s behavior is that she receives Google alerts on Bethenny Frankel. This is how Jill found out that Bethenny was pregnant. Jill then, called up Luann and gossiped about it. For someone who didn’t want to be friends with Bethenny, Jill Zarin appears to be obsessed with Bethenny Frankel. After all, Jill was the one who originally broke off the friendship. So, why would she get Google alerts on a person that she wants nothing to do with?
A lot of the hostility between Jill Zarin and Bethenny Frankel seems to be due to jealousy on the part of Jill. Bethenny has recently enjoyed several successes in her life: Bethenny had a baby girl, she got married, launched a drink called the Skinny Girl margarita, and she has a new show on Bravo, called Bethenny, Getting Married? On the Real Housewives of New York City, season 3 reunion show, both Ramona and Alex revealed that Jill asked them not to be on Bethenny’s new show. Jill Zarin admitted that she did this during the reunion show. This is the behavior of a person who is vindictive and tries to bring people down.
Bethenny Frankel would do well to keep Jill Zarin at arms length, because Jill could never be a true friend. Jill Zarin appears to be a backstabber and manipulator. Jill Zarin also admits that she has a problem with holding grudges. Any person with a manipulative personality is likely to wait for future opportunities to take revenge against someone who she is upset with. Jill Zarin and Bethenny Frankel should be civil, respectful, and amicable with each other but there is probably no chance to restore their friendship to its previous state. Whether the two become friends again is ultimately up to them, and remains to be seen.
