Ever since the invention of the microwave, we in America have developed a quick fix addiction that rules our lives.
Instant Gratification
When we want something, we want it now. We don’t want to do all of the hard work, that it takes, to get it. We want the gratification, instantly. We feel fully justified in demanding to have things right now. Instant gratification has become a way of life for us.
Drug Addiction
We don’t want to have to wait for anything, anymore. That’s one of the reasons why the United States has a major drug addiction problem. People want to feel good; instantly, and drugs provide that.
Society
As a society, we’ve come to rely on the quick fix to solve all our problems. We don’t want to have to take the steps that it takes to get through A, B, C, and D in order to reach the goal.
Whining, Bitching, and Moaning
A lot of whining, bitching, and moaning goes on when we are faced with the reality of what is required of us to reach our goals. If we can have our cup of noodle soup ready in three minutes after putting it in the microwave, then why can’t I have a big pile of cash available at my disposal whenever I need it? Right?
Rationalization For The Quick Fix
The rationalization for the quick fix does not need to be a reasonable one. As we look at the influence of drugs on our society, we see just how rampant the need for a quick fix is. Drugs provide people with the immediate high without doing any hard work to get it.
Natural High
The runner’s high is completely different than the drug takers high. The runner’s high is a natural high and it’s free, as long as you’re willing to do the hard work to get it; which is running.
A Nation Of Pill Poppers To Get A Quick Fix
We have become a nation of pill poppers to get a quick fix. I’m guilty of this myself because I have to take antidepressant drugs to keep myself from being depressed. Sometimes, a quick fix is necessary, as in antidepressants to help people function; so they can get out of bed in the morning.
The Quick Fix Is A Tool
The quick fix is a tool to be used like anything else in life; but I think that it has to be used with caution and with moderation. If some things are used too often, they can become a crutch for us that we use as a coping skill and this can quickly develop into an addiction.
Addicted To The Quick Fix
When something becomes an addiction, you need whatever it is, to feed your addiction, in order to be able to function; you have to have your quick fix of instant gratification. When you have an addiction to drugs or alcohol, it rules your life, and nothing else matters. The drugs and alcohol provide the quick fix that you seek by making you feel secure and satisfied, instantly. You might lose everything you ever loved; your family, your house, your home, and even your dog or cat. You also lose your sanity and become a shell of a person that you once were when you become addicted to the quick fix.
Drugs and Alcohol, and The Quick Fix
Drugs and alcohol provide the quick fix; that the many people who are stuck in addiction, crave. When your body demands that you have a substance, it’s hard for your mind, to resist. It’s obvious to see, that when we take a hard look at it, the quick fix addiction rules our lives.
